I was thinking of ordering one from Birdsong but just wasn't sure I could stand the wait. Despite the bass being listed as a firm price, I had made a couple of offers when it was initially listed on Reverb (which were rejected) so I sent a message on Reverb asking if they would take an offer. They agreed to listen to another offer and I ended up paying $1650 plus tx and ship ($100). This seemed like a good or at least a fair deal. The only thing I might have changed had I ordered one would have been the strings. I no longer play round wound strings as my hands just can't take it, and I have gotten where for most songs I like the thumper sound of the flats.

Congrats! I have La Bella flats 760F-MUS on a Sadhana model and La Bella tapes 760N-M on a Skyrider model. Both sets are medium scale, perfect fit.
Hmm, well, too late for medium scale. I ordered long scale yesterday from Amazon. I'll get them tomorrow.

My Shortbass was "factory" loaded with longscale medium Chromes on it - AFAIK you can't get that gauge in shortscale and I tune DGCF (Scott intonated mine for DGCF) so needed all the heft I can get. I did have to redo the machine end of the "E" string as it had too much wound on the peg and was hard to tune, didn't stay in tune well, and didn't sound like the other strings - I shortened it as much as possible and it's fine. Scott told me he wanted his basses to be able to use long scale strings because of the poor availability and selection of short scale strings. BTW it's generally known that Chromes are the only flatscale strings that are flexible enough to wrap the fat part on the pegs (and use with thru body) without breaking. I carry a set of LaBella Deep Talkin' short scale flats in case of a string breaking or for when the stock strings wear out in 20 years or so

My 2 Shortbasses are both top loaders and I have LaBella 760FS-S (short scale) Deep Talkin' Flats on both of them. They fit nicely.
I don't care much for Chromes.

Scott has built me two nice walnut Shortbasses (one fretless and one fretted). That's all I'll ever need.

I have two on order right now ....but somehow I always manage to end up with something....the temptation is to much.
My (first order) Corto2 has been shipped... waiting for it later next week, so I'm good for now.

It's my preference and I don't have to cut as much off the end when I string-thru. Scott at Birdsong doesn't like the wraps on the flats going over the bridge at that sharp angle, but I've broken two strings in 35 years, and only one with strung-through flats and I was beating the hell out of it.
For what it's worth My C-Bass came (direct from Scott) with D'Adario flats through the body. I think they are long scale - lots of winds anyway.
Mini review: Loving my Corto I got 5-6 weeks ago. Light weight in the 7lbs range, balances and with a new 3" strap I barely notice it's on. And something about how it hangs makes it more comfortable to hang lower. I'm rarely looking to see the fretboard if I lose track of my place. My long scales I had strapped up higher. I like lower better.
the tone is fantastic. The two pickups are perfect and placed perfectly. I can see why it became the first model. I like that the tone knob really makes a difference and I'm using it more than I normally do. Fav settings favors the neck pickup but dialed back a touch then I add from about 2-6 of the bridge depending on the song and style.
Has a great palm on bridge-muted pick sound. And great bridge. Comfortable to the palm like my old Wal Pro. Can't do that at all on my Rick 4000 which is fine, different tool. I don't slap but the bass sounds great with fingers or picked. Never had a string through body before but the sustain is off the chart. A palm muted note will ring forever.
I thought the neck would take a bit to get used to but it felt like home almost immediately. Different than the Wal which is my other favorite but it's just right and the shorter scale and longer horn improves the reach to the top of the neck.
Also liking the Curt Mangen strings that came on it (rounds). I had been using lighter gauges but I think I will stick with the stock 105-45's for a while. At some point I will likely experiment with others and flats but very happy for now.
Glad I jumped on an inventory build, C420, when it popped up and didn't wait for my number to come up. That's just me but I needed it to improve my motivation.
