Birdsong Club Pt 2

I like the sound of the Laces personally. As far as the settings go, I generally run both pickups wide open with the varitone on bypass. 3 is my favorite setting on the varitone when I do use it.

Below is sign that I like my Skyrider. :bassist: The wear is at the spot where the knuckle of my thumb rests when I'm playing...

A wonderful bass - exceptional craftsmanship; outstanding weight and balance - but I'm contemplating letting it go.

Planned on expanding into bass (I play six-string) but it hasn't happened, so in the case it remains. Perhaps one of these days...

Ow! I busted my nut last night

7c-084nut.jpg

Was changing strings last night and was tightening the G string when part of the nut popped off.
Talked to Scott and he is sending me a new nut. He told me to super glue it temporarily. He also said that if I wind the string all the way down the shaft there may be enough down-pressure on the nut and zero fret to play it as is.
I bought this bass used 2 years ago and have never changed the strings. Was putting flats on it to see how they would sound.

Been a long time since I have hung around at Talkbass cause of business, life, and happily, gigs..., but I got an email today that the Birdsong thread had been replied to (though there are MONTHS of replies I had not read )... so I thought I would come back and maybe post a pic of 8c-117 in action...

I like this one cause it makes me look like a real bass player...

Considering swapping out the Lace pickups in my Cortobass with Passive/Active ones. Anybody done this yet? Any recommendations on what sounds good? Any sound samples???

Thanks

I changed the Lace neck pickup to a Seymour Duncan Cool Rails (passive) pickup. I also changed to a single volume, single tone with 3 way toggle selector switch. I like this setup alot and would not change it. I did not like the Varitone much.

I posted in detail about this mod on page 5. Check the subsequent post I made regarding further changes to the tone control.

Cheers

Thanks.

I don't even use the neck pickup. Doesn't add anything to the sound I'm after. I run the bridge pickup only.

I didn't get the varitone option.

How easy was the swap to the Seymour Duncan Cool Rails pickup? Any routing required or are they the same size? Any issues encountered?

Drops straight in, no routing. Much louder than the standard Lace pickup and it balances well when using both pickups together via the selector switch.

I just play songs that I like and these come from various styles of music. I like the versatility my setup provides
I tend to use the bridge pickup for hard rock. I use both pickups together quite a bit for not so hard rock. The neck alone is very deep and resonant and suits some songs, especially for a jazz type feel.

I would have been prepared to experiment more, but after I tried this setup I was completely satisfied.

Of course everyone has their own tastes and preferences.

Santa is coming this week !!! A surprise Birdsong is coming my way....I am sitting by the window..waiting for the sled !!!!:hiding:

now, waitaminit... if you are waiting for it, how can it be a surprise???

BTW: I would really love to grab up that Cbass ratrod Scott is offering...

I would love to get a Ratrod... something with a Birdsong under the hood but a little grittier bodywise...

I will admit I have no idea what to expect when it arrives...but that is the way I enjoy life.....
