Finally picked up a vid camera with decent sound. Here's the Embrace playing some reggae I'll have some jazz trio clips up soon too.
Great sounding bass! I got mine Thursday and I can't put it down. Guys, the Embrace is a wonderful bass- it balances very well on a strap and sounds great.
One of my bands (Kelly Poole & the Swingset) is doing a DVD shoot on Feb. 16 and I'll be using the Embrace on it. Can't wait to share it with the Birdsong family.
It looks and sounds great. Just when I thought I was safe from GAS....
I notice that the bridge is a very simple design. How do you adjust for intonation or even string height on the Embrace?
You adjust the string height with the truss rod. I've got the fretboard flat and the action us nice and low and I like low action. You could also file the bridge if you wanted to its made of wood but I can't imagine wanting to make the action lower. You adjust the intonation with your fingers and ears. That's part of the fun.
Has anyone played both the corto and the corto 2? Trying to decide which would be my best option. Any clips of the 2 floating around?
I got my first Birdsong a little over a month ago from CTbass&birdsong a little over a month ago, and I am really loving it. I was in in the market for a high end short scale 5 string and CTbass&birdsong was nice enough to let me visit his house and try out some of his Birdsong basses. After trying out the HY5 I knew I had to had one, and luckily he was looking to sell his. It has since become my main bass. I am amazed by how versatile it is. I have some live recordings with it if anyone is curious.
Here is a video of my first show with it. This video is from The Happenstance event, which is a "rock lottery" type event. At this event you get paired up with random musicians in the morning, and have until the show in the evening to write a 25 minute set with no more than 1 cover. This video is one of our original tunes.

Sounds like fun - or a nightmare depending on what instrumentation you get and what personalities end up in the same group.
I LOVE that idea. I'm jealous you got to try out Ben's collection of Birdsongs. I got to try out two of them in 2007 before they were shipped to him, but I'm not sure if he still owns either of those two (the Mesquito and an all-maple Piccolo Bass).

Hello music has them for $150.00 but there is a code you can use for 20.00 off tweet20 and I was thinking of getting one problem is I'm at work and can't measure my Fusion. I think it will fit but I just wanted to make sure. I don't think Scott has the dimensions of his basses on his web site.

I used to have a Rob Allen Mouse (that I had to sell
) with a Protec bag that I use to use with my Birdsong's. Only problem with the Protec bag is my Landing bass would not fit in it. Maybe if find the dimensions for the Protec bag that will tell me if this bag will work.
Talked to Scott for a good hour and a half about basses and design and sound. He knows his instuments he builds no question about that.
Ended up ordering an Embrace that isn't far from being done with knotty alder wings and teak board, black hardware.
And......a custom fretted base shapped like a Cortobass with pickup design of the Fusion. Maple wings with a massive bark area on upper wing, walnut center board, rear routing, black hardware rosewood board, rosewood knobs. Love that big bark area..
Crazy excited and will be selling the Warmouth jazz, Tacoma acoustic, Dean acoustic Fender bassman 60 tilt back and my Ampeg B100R to offset the attack of GAS.
Should have the Embrace in weeks!!!!!

I know I am preachin' to the choir here, but a quick "Scott n Jamie are cool" story:
The jack on my Corto had gone out (one of the long Switchcraft jacks... As far as I know you can't fix them once they've gone out, or at least I do not know how. It is about years old or so...)...
Anyhow, I emailed Scott to make sure i was getting the right one) and he stuck one in the mail free of charge... When I said let me know the cost I'd be glad to play, he said give $5 to the homeless shelter of my choice.
Just the kinda service and overall coolness you get from the Birdsong folks...
