Does anyone own a hy5 in/around Manhattan that I could come and try out? I talked to Scott from Birdsong over the phone and he recommended to try this forum. Please let me know!

Not sure how real tort would sit with Scott .....doesn't seem to be a fan of animal products. Then again....who knows.

check this out ! I just got this pic from Jimmy Wilson at Landing Guitars and someone sent him a Cortobass for Jimmy to install EMG's in it. The pickguard is by Jeannie's pickguards.

Bet you that bass sounds awesome. I like the vari-tone but sometimes wish for more standard pickup controls. I also would love to have a humbucker in the neck position.
Wonder how it would sound with Dark Stars ?
That bass is mint reminds me of a Musicman Sabre...add a maple fingerboard and its on!!!
The center piece is Mahogany. The stringers Ebony and the wings are Walnut. The neck is a one piece maple with a unlined fretless board, Walnut head stock and burn marks on the side for key fret locations. I also added a D-tuner

My second Birdsong is on the way.
This time it's the 8th Anniversary Embrace. I've been eyeballing this one for a while. The ebony fretboard was the clincher. I really love the look and feel of ebony.
It's also time to get a fretless. Will post photos when it gets here.

Maybe that's what I should do.....get a lined fretless Embrace....never played a fretless before but it might be time to do it......could always have it fretted if it doesn't work out....

The lines are a big help for a fretless newbie like myself. They shortened my adjustment time getting intonation correct. A good ear helps even more.
Just ordered one of Scott's Shortbasses last night. Gonna be made from some cedar he found on the side of the road. I can't wait, but he said it'll probably be around February.
