Birdsong Club Pt 2

Yeah it took quite a while for that plank of tulip wood to emerge. I can't remember exactly how long, but... it was a while. The first plank Scott found wasn't anything like that one. It was still cool, but for whatever reason all the vibrant reds and yellows weren't there and it had a (cool but not what I was hoping for) earthy tone thing going on. Luckily Scott found the plank that turned into these two beauties. I kinda hope one day I can get my hands on the fretted one, but it's still in China if the original owner has kept it there.

One heads up about that tulip wood.... stuff's pretty damn heavy, because it's so dense... but it sounds killer. Absolutely killer.

Anyway, it was definitely worth the wait.... a wait, which by boutique bass build standards still wasn't even long.

I can't say enough good things about Scott and the whole crew, this is my third Birdsong bass, and I'm already planning the next one. I've always wanted a tulip wood bass, ever since I saw these two....I'm just not sure what I want to do as far as 4/5/6 goes yet. Either way, I know I'm in for a long wait, because I remember from the last time I asked, finding chunks this big isn't easy.

Hello- I realize that this question may have already been answered on this forum, and if so I apologize. But I searched here, as well as elsewhere on the internet, and could not find the answer to my question. Does anyone know anything about the pickup on the Fusion bass? I owned a Fusion previously; regretfully I sold it. But I am hopefully going to soon acquire another. When I had my bass, I never peeked under the wooden cover. I'm just curious about it. I thought about contacting Scott directly, but since there is no information on the Birdsong website and it is hidden under that wooden cover- maybe it's something he wishes to keep proprietary? Thanks for any info.

I think mine (built in 2008) has a DiMarzio that Scott wires up differently than intended by the manufacturer. [DEL]Assuming that hasn't changed and the same pickup is still listed on the DiMarzio site, it's either a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] or a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Model One kinda rings a bell, but if you wanna know for sure... best to call Scott.[/DEL] I haven't peaked under the wooden cover either, but now you've got me curious.

Edit: DiMarzio X2NB suggested below is probably spot on.

After selling my Fusion last year to finance some other acquisitions, I realized that I had made a big mistake! So when the opportunity arose to get another Fusion, I pounced on it. Just got this baby yesterday- it may be familiar, as it has passed through the hands of two other TBers. The "Old House Beam" Fusion arrived yesterday- it is even more gorgeous in real life (the red cedar is very attractive, and the bloodwood fretboard plays as great as it looks. I'm very happy, and I will never be Birdsong-less again!
