Well, my next build has been started, it's a set neck Skyrider that Scott and I have been calling "Bernie the Birdsong". It's our tribute to the old BC Rich basses we both love. This one will have dual Dimarzio P's, diamond inlays on the board, and even some vintage "top hat" knobs. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

I like the way the grain expands off the bottom and runs with the contours.

Hi All,

Hoping to get some feedback about your experience with Lace pickups and advice. I purchased a Corto from Scott in 2009 (9C-158) which is shown in my Avatar. I truly love the natural sound\voice of the bass (un-amped). And, love the feel. But, I have never been a fan of the way my pickups color that beautiful sound. I have the varitone which I keep on bypass or one click to the right. I've tried blending my pickups every possible way and even changed out the varitone to a standard tone control back in 2010 (Scott may be using a different tone control today), but eventually went back to the varitone. Any suggestions on plugging in a different set of passive pickups? A different tone control? Has any heard of what tone controls Scott is using these days. I read in his FAQ (as I recall) that he is phasing out the varitone...if so, what's he using in its place?

Thank you very much for your time and thoughts.

Thank you for your reply. I also read your post on page 5. did the lace pick up fit exactly into the lace pickup pocket, and do you think I can connect it to the existing volume control pot?

Did you identify any replacement pickup for the bridge that would also easily fit?

Thanks, again.

First of all, I want to apologize. I know I owe some people club numbers (redmoe at the very least - looks like you got one of the basses that Jake made for himself - VERY cool).

My apologies - I just haven't been in and staying on to of the club numbers like I need to. I'll see what I can do in the next couple of days to update y'all. My only other update is that I've been on the phone with Scott in the last week or two putting together the details for my first new Birdsong in 7 years. WOOHOO!!!

Redmoe - 81
gangonthehill - 82

I *think* that's right. Laptop change cost me my master list of numbers, so I was trying to rebuild based on posts since last summer.

Y'all are wonderfully patient with my negligent self.

I've been considering posting details about my new bass but I know how wishy-washy I can be, so I'm going to hold off until it's past the point of no return and I can't change my mind on any of the major stuff.
