I purchased the early prototype and also the fretless Cortobass that Scott was building for himself that he started in 06...
Hello all, I bought the "Saturday Night Special" Corto2 (14C-288) during the 4th of July event and have a Sadhana (S-058) on order. The Corto2 is Walnut with an Ebony lined fretless fingerboard and chrome; just a dream to play and look at. I will post pictures when I get my camera back from my son.

Any old-time members remember "Richard the Test Bass"? Scott's poplar cortina as (5c-43) was the prototyping bass for the c-bass, the double-string-thru design, and some crazy pickup configurations over years and has the open exposed router holes to prove it. He arrived by surprise at my house late last week and is now getting to live out his retirement in my stable, wired with just the single-coil pickup at the neck.
It's always cool to have a bass with a story, I've got an old Ibanez Soundgear with a swimming-pool route that was used in Dr. Dimento's massive pickup testing threads on here years back (I wonder if he's still around?) and its fun to play around with different configurations, though I understand if you wish to keep yours as-is due to the story involved

It is a custom Cortobass, with the oval delano pickup (a Cortoval, perhaps?) I was looking for something "light and bright" in both appearance and sound. Scott had a nice, lightweight piece of Poplar that he said had some grain pattern similar to Swamp Ash. Poplar body, maple neck and fretboard, ebony control plate, and black hardware. I can't wait for the maple to get that nice tinted look after being played. The bass will also feature a series/parallel switch.
Now the only question is, do I sell my barely used Corto2? That bass needs to be played more, and I am looking like the wrong guy for the job!

I was finally able to get a picture of my Corto2, playing through a highly modded BBE 383, a Dayton Audio APA150 and a Mike Arnopol MAS-26 speaker.

macmanlou, did your short bass come in yet? I put in an order for one just like it but fretted, 15-1023. I am wondering how it sounds for you and how you like it!
She's not done yet. I expect it'll probably be another month or two. Scott makes these in his own shop on his own time, so it can take a while (which is fine with me).
Ok, the real reason I called Scott the other day was in regard to 12C-245 that was offered in inventory: from Scott's page Sept 26, 2014: "Over in glue-up I unclamped some things including a re-body of Cortobass #245 which, in mint condition, surfaced for sale... with the upper horn lopped off...The new body is ready to cut out and proceed - if you're a lefty, this is a rare chance to pick up something from inventory..."
I was hesitant about the price, great though it was, as I am not a pro bassist, so ordered a Short Bass. Then I spent a week agonizing over the price difference for the bass I REALLY wanted, and called him back to change the order to #245. Lefty, walnut body with maple center stringer, single h/b p/u with volume control only (as was the original), but neck mounted. So, the order for Short Bass 15-1023 is cancelled, and changed to #245. Now I am excited!
