Saw Travis play at a smallish club in Portland last year. They've still got what they had. They say they'll be back in town this year and I'll definitely go again.Oh Lord, let's hope this is the last card we have to mark for a while.

Yep. Somehow they never broke up or went on hiatus and it's still the original 4 members! Still pretty big overseas, but not well known here.

They really do.. I've been a fan for decades of Dougie Payne's playing and their Live in Glasgow DVD was my instructional for how to be a rock player. He's never flashy, but always complimentary and melodic.
Ahh band drama, gotta love it. So much about BL's behavior from the start turns me off, the whole attempt to look like the original band is lame and misguided, imho, and I'd be out as soon as I heard / read "hair standard" or any other impingement on my personal appearance and grooming decisions. That's just me though. Good on you, OP, for taking the high road....
OP dodged a bullet. The BL would have insisted on fist fights between the brothers, resulting in breaking up, then reconciliation. Art imitates life….or is it the other way around?
Sounds awesome! Saw them at the Vic in Chicago last year and they were great. Really hoping they come back as I want to bring my kids who are now into Travis as well.

"the Invisible band" is the only album I own, mostly cos my very first band had me learn "Sing" - for years I nicked a lot of the fills from that song and inserted them everywhere. People called me a melodic player
Any other album recommendations, specifically for the bass lines? This thread also reminds me to play some Oasis again cos there's actually some good bass lines to harvest there, too.
Isn't this what No Way Sis (and Fake That) did back in the days? IIRC both acts took the tribute aspect so seriously that they broke up when the main bands did, went solo and reconciled etc.
I love Oasis, and the more people disparage them, the more I like them! I’d play in an Oasis tribute in a heartbeat.

It's not going to impress any bass virtuosos, but they're catchy. Or so says the guy who also loves playing classic country bass.....

Personally, I don't have a dog in the fight over matching facial hair styles, though the "BL" screwed up by insisting one way or the other without defining expectations at the outset. He further screwed up by being shady about his "firings" (either one of these two would be a giant "walk away" red flag for me).
Though maybe his biggest screwup was in considering himself a band leader without either having something of significant value to offer in return or honestly earning the title, preferably both. Want to be a band leader? Front the band and/or book all the gigs - and try to act in a respectful manner.

To be fair to the BL, he was an Oasis Savant when it came to info about the band. He had the necessary look, instruments, harmonies and guitar parts down to play the part of Noel, and he had booked the 2nd and 3rd gigs for the band.
We chatted about it this weekend when 3 of us did some work with the sub and it really came down to a matter of disrespect, lack of communication about expectations and inability to handle conflict/disagreement in an open and mature manner. Neither his abilities nor his bookings were enough for the other members to want to keep playing with him after the way he behaved. As you suggest, it was mostly about respect and professionalism.
Minor Update:
At this point we have a sub and are going ahead with the gig. It probably won't be as album-perfect as it might otherwise have been, but the sub is very good and a fast learner and his guitar tone is great. I think we and the audience are going to have a great time.

The February gig is a ticketed bar venue, but it's also one set as part of a larger bill. We'll see what happens. The aim of this tribute band is definitely to get better paying, higher-profile ticketed gigs. Hopefully we'll be able to get some good video at this first gig that will assist in promoting the band.

Show went well and the venue was thrilled. We packed the place. We only managed a partial rehearsal with the sub, but despite some rough patches we did well and the audience loved us. Lots of sing alongs.
So a good result for Wonderwall. Now we've got to get a permanent "Noel" (if you know anyone let me know...) but in the mean time, we're feeling good about this project and about each other.

Sorry I didn't make it but was at Montrose Saloon last night for a drummer's (whom I've recorded) birthday, featuring 5 of the bands he plays in including a guy who I jam/ record with playing bass in two of them - I can only do one night a week drinking nowadaze, and knew I was gonna, and did (and I have a drummer coming from 2 hours away and another state for a jam inna cuppla hours, semi-hangover not withstanding). Glad yers was a success!
