Black coffee appreciation

Until 1975, I had to have cream and sugar, couldn't do without it.
Then I helped put together a group in Nashville and we already had 2 months of steady bookings 6 nights a week.
We had 18 days to make a band out of 5 complete strangers. We rented practice space in an industrial area of Nashville and began 16 hour practice days. At the location, there was only an old busted up electric percolator useful only for heating water. There was instant coffee (yuk) and no cream or sugar. Every morning when I would head for rehearsal, I would forget to pick up some cream and sugar, so I had to drink black instant coffee.
We head out on the road for our first gig in Roanoke, VA. At the first stop, I ordered coffee and put cream and sugar in it. It tasted bad to me. I asked for a new cup and drank it black. I've been drinking it like that since.
But, to me, the cream and sugar are not the offensive ones. The most egregious thing one can do to coffee is flavoring. I can't drink it. If I'd wanted crème brulee, I'd order crème brulee! I order coffee!

Man I agree, flavored coffee is the nastiest. I drank a cup of peppermint something flavor java at a recent Christmas party and I pretended to be happy, but it was really putrid.

I remember percolators. They took a long time to brew up a pot.

They still use them in Costa Rica. Against all modern wisdom, they make a superb cup of coffee there using this method, perfectly round and balanced, on the smooth side. They obviously roast their beans to get the best results using this method, I just found it very quaint.

Flavored coffee is evil Lucifer juice. I'll drink cold 6-hour-old gas station coffee before I touch a drop of that stuff. May as well drink that powder/hot water stuff that those "Cappuccino" machines spit out. And don't even get me started on people who mix that stuff with coffee...

Been digging this Kona Blend out of the K cup recently. Not bad coffee at tall. Decent priced also.
