Black nylon strings problem

Hello guys. I have a Marcus Miller V10 fretless bass for which I recently bought some black nylon strings from Rotosound.

After I just slightly widened the nut slot for the G string, I noticed some ringing from that same string to almost any part of that string, throughout the neck. I don't see any problem with the nut, the string sits tight on it, but I'm just giving all info on the situation, so that we might get what's going on.

The sound is not like that of a wolf note. It wasn't there before and it sounds like the string is ringing from its inside, producing this sound, which is kinda more trebly and less bassy (not extremely, though).

Has anyone experienced something similar? What could be the problem? Any ideas, or previous experience?

Thanks a lot.

Is it possible the nut slot is too snug for the G? If the fit is too tight, the outer nylon cover could be stuck in the slot instead of being able to slide back and forth, causing the inner layer to slip underneath.

Rotosound nylon tape G strings are notorious. They don't have the same amount of damping material the other strings have, even though they are made to try to help an electric bass emulate a double bass with the bloom, and they are waaaayyyy tighter than they need to be.

I gave up, trashed the G string, and bought a single La Bella black tape in the "regular" gauge (I believe a 60), and life was much better after that.
