blocks vs. dots

Dots are cool for the traditional look. Clean fretboards are sexy.

I don't care for blocks -- too much bling for my eyes. And besides... if the fretboard has a dramatic effect on the tone of an instrument, wouldn't big blocks as well? :eyebrow: ;)

Binding I can go for... on a clean fretboard.

My Ibanez EDA just has a double dot at the 12th, I thought it would mess with me but now I can actually use the side dots easier than the fronts. So I guess as long as I have the sides I am good, plus now I love the clean fretboard look, makes me wanna go fretless, among other obvious reasons.

I love blocks with binding on a Jazz bass. I just can't decide if black or pearl blocks look better on maple fretboard though.

+1, IMO pearl blocks on a maple neck ala 70's Jazz Bass, wonderfull combination.:hyper:

On ebony, rosewood or pau ferro I prefer plain necks n- no binding - no dots or blocks.;)

Blocks or nothing for me (although dots are sometimes OK, too). These are that abalam materia - incredible figure and color on this. You can see the figure better on the pic of the headstock:
