blocks vs. dots

Either a big beautiful unmarked slab of wood, or blocks and binding. I never quite saw the appeal in blocks or binding... If you are going to do one do both.

My next bass WILL have pearloid blocks and white binding on a rosewood or ebony neck.

Maple is the one exception... it looks good with some little black dots

I like abalone dots with cream binding. FMT and QMT USA-crafted Deluxe basses had a cream bound rosewood or maple fretboard with pearloid blocks. I prefer to put an American Deluxe rosewood neck on a USA Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass 4-string, this time with ivoroid binding and pearloid dots. Also, my equal liking for those vintage early '65 and early '66 Jazz Basses led me to install a thumbrest, a parchment pickguard, a set of pickup covers, vintage "oval" tuning machines and a pair of Basslines Jazz Bass pickups to complete the look. I plan to replace the silver foil spaghetti decal with a Late '60s gold transitional one.
