Hey you all!

I just wanted to share with you an AWESOME experience,

I, me, my.... was just picking up my new gigbag (a cool harvest leather bag, very good quality) and then i saw my dream bass standing there on a stand... so pretty and neat, ready to be played. I played around for about 15 minutes on this beauty, but i couldn't afford it as my economies are below the floor boards...

This MusicMan StingRay5 was PERFECT! I threw it into the practice amp at the store a SVT-450 with 2 410 cabs. AMAZING! i just sung and my fingers were dancing... I MUST HAVE!

Nahh i kidd... I would but i cannot take a spontaneous loan cause i have no credits to draw upon therefore i have to save up...

Just for further notice, what is the expression: "below the floorboards" if that's not correct? I've always used it, but i've never heard anyone else use it :)

I was kinda joking...I figured if you could afford it you would have bought it...

"below the floor boards" is an expression for really low (as in the basement of a house).....

good luck saving for it! you have a good goal to work towards!

Good expression. There's a lot of economies below the floorboards at the moment, believe me. :bawl:

The tragedy is those that get hit worst are those already on the limit. :mad:

Not trying to get political, just expressing a general issue with inequality. Let's not go there here.

Good to hear you liked the MM.

I'm scared to pick one up, I already need to get a Cirrus after trying one for 30 seconds. :bassist:

A loving parent of any income bracket should help by telling you to work for what you want, and not step on those with less than you. That's like saying they should do your math homework because you hate it.

I agree, though, that good gear is great incentive to practice, but if you spend some time learning to do setup on your bass, you can make cheaper gear play better. A dedicated player will do what it takes to get their dream instrument, no matter how many different ones come along.

I saw my dream bass back in the 80s, a Ric 4001 in a store in New Jersey. I was a pennyless teenager so I could only keep dreaming. Last year I finally bought a 4003. :hyper:

Not sure, my logic chip must have been rebooting (to much thought experimentation).

It's great to get what you've wanted for ages. For me it's going to be a bass I make myself, which will require a workshop and tools. It'll be 10 years if I'm lucky:crying:

In the meantime I may mod a stand in...

Congratulations on finding a bass which you love so much, Jenra! :) I know that the wait can be difficult, but don't you worry - just keep on saving, bit by bit, and when the day finally comes that you are standing in the store handing over the money, while they are taking it down and putting it into its case for you, you will feel like you are on top of the world!

I fell in love once. In my case I wandered into local bass/guitar store and there to my wondering eyes did appear an Alembic 6 string Epic with a flamed maple top! One look and I knew I must have! Only I wanted a fretless version. It didn't matter that I never played a 6 string or a fretless before and was a total noob on "real" basses. I HAD to have it! Luckily economies were good then so I placed an order with the Factory. It really was too much bass for me at that time and took me years to grow into it, but hey, I was in LOVE!

Later, I discovered when the next Epic went on display that burled walnut would have been WAY cooler than the more ordinary flamed maple (hey I was a newbie so I was impressed). And after that, I also discovered that not getting the LED fret markers was a BIG mistake. But hey, I STILL love the old girl and I'd NEVER sell her!

In your case, there is an option if you can swing it where you are. And that would be an OLP bass. These are a very credible Stingray substitute to help you with "RayGAS" while you save! They are pretty cheap and with a few rewiring tweaks and maybe a $20 EBAY preamp, It turns out a pretty decent 'Ray clone! I've got one and I love it! And the original Leo circuit board that you can get here on TB makes a really good 'Ray bass if you are up to that much electronics. I love mine.

Reread the post, "A loving parent would help you buy professional level gear."

This doesn't say anything about stepping on toes. Also, your analogy has the parent doing the homework. This guy is saying help your kid buy a bass, not buy one for him. Also, your analogy has the parent doing the homework because the kid hates it. totally irrelevant to the post.

There is a real punitive tone to some of these posts. I've bought every bass from my own earnings from my sears catalogue special at age 13 to my custom basses at 54. I would not have appreciated any of them any less if my parents had the means to buy one for me. I paid for all my own college too. I didn't appreciate it any more or less than my brother and sister, whose tuition my parents were able to pay for.

There is nothing wrong with parents helping their kids if they can. There is a lot of ground between giving some spoiled rich kid a new Ferrari and never giving a kid anything. I agree that you need to instill a good work ethic in a child, but there is nothing wrong with doing nice things for good kids. Good kids appreciate what their parents do for them.
