Blueberry BOD Alternatives

I have a JohnK Foundry pedal that's a combination Blueberry OD and Submarine tone shaper. I've never owned an actual BBBOD, but the Foundry matches what I've heard in BBBOD demos, and the Submarine adds optional versatility.

^^^ This is from one of my recent quarantine woodshedding sections. I added the HB EQ for fun, not necessity. The Foundry sounds great all by itself for classic transparent bass overdrive -- it's a favorite with my 60's-70's classic rock/funk/R&B bands.

For a similar OD vibe I also like the Grizzly and MBD-1, but the Foundry sounds most like the BBBOD of course.

I just got my One Control Blackberry Monday and you can make it sound like the Bearfoot Blueberry if you want but you can also make it much less Warm/Fat sounding(very Articulate). I kind of like it set up like the Bearfoot BBOD but it is so much more versatile than that if you want those sounds out of it. With the Drive and the Depth cranked up it gets very Farty for the lack of a better word but it gets into nice subtle OD long before it gets to that point. From what I can tell the Depth is kind of a Bass/Warmth boost and the Body Boosts the mids enough to clean things up quite a bit but even wide open it is not too much. There is not a ton of gain on tap b ut then that would be a different pedal. It has plenty to get into breakup but not enough to do Dist or Fuzz. But that is the point of this pedal low gain subtle OD.

Bearfoot is selling (iterations of) original BJFE designs without Bjorn receiving any credit and/or royalties for it. Also they removed every mention of BJFE from their products.

They used to be partners but things turned ugly a few years ago. I personally choose to not buy Bearfoot products anymore because of this. I rather want my money in the pockets of the guy who actually designed these pedals. Luckily the BJFE One Control pedals are really amazing and as a bonus have better availability.

Well in this particular situation we’re presented with 3 options:

1) Getting the handmade product by the designer himself (BJFE)

2) Getting the licensed, designer approved product (One Control)

3) Getting an iteration of either of the above products, not approved by the designer (Bearfoot)

Having options 1 and 2 available, for me personally option 3 doesn’t really makes sense anymore. I like to be loyal to the designer. This is not to say the new Bearfoot pedal isn’t probably a perfectly good pedal.

Again, this is a personal choice. YMMV

I couldn't make it through the 80 page thread on the other forum, and didn't realize they had a falling out until AFTER I had jumped on the second preorder batch. I've always been a bit confused by the BJFe / Bearfoot / BJF Designed iterations, and only now feel like I understand, but a little too late.

I found it.

"Bearfoot has failed the mission to be a mass-outlet of near exact, high quality,large series at wide availability and great consumer price versions of BJF-designs, but turned into a miniature operation producing endless variations of basic BJF designs. This could have been fine as a handmade in America option were it not for a deep disagreement of what is good business ethics. Therefore there shall be no more BJF designs transfered to Bearfoot production,nor anymore variations BJF designs currently produced by Bearfoot, but the current line up as of end of 2017 may still be produced." BJFE

The forthcoming Bearfoot Queen Bee looks to be the ultimate Blueberry / Honey Bee crossover, just announced on here earlier: Bearfoot Blueberry Fans Unite

I used the Bearfoot Blueberry for many years. IMHO the Barbershop and Grizzly don't come anywhere close, and they can't handle high output instruments like the Blueberry can. The closest thing I've found to it is the TC MojoMojo, bonus points for being one of the cheapest pedals on the market!

$341 USD on my browser, and sold-out so I guess someone liked the price. I might pay it too.

Considering many of us waste thousands of dollars in time and money searching for the right OD, it could easily be worth it. Björn has legendary status, as does the Blueberry, so there's also considerable cachet.

This is inaccurate and leaves the wrong impression it seems... I disagreed with One Control making chinese mass produced versions of BearFoot Made in American bjf collaborations ... I continue making what we collaborated on before he was let go... and will continue innovating and updating our line up.
