Bobe's 9 String Fretless

the bass is back on the workbench after a little break. I finished the pickups yesterday and put the bass up together to check it out for the final touch-ups and adjustments. I also wanted to hear the pickups raw. No tone, volume or preamps.

So I tried my hand at making a video. Here goes guys, my first Youtube video



Let's not look at the playing (or lack of) this is just to hear that it is in fact, alive.

I'd like that too! The video is fine on my computer but each time I loaded it to youtube (3X) it did that.

this bass is crazy!! gorgeous looking and by the sound of the bridge p/up raw I'd say that it's gonna have some great tone too!!

BTW, thanks for posting pics as it's easier that way to scroll through to just get to the On Topic posts ie. Bobe's 9 string fretless built by you [and not some discussion about who's bark is louder when it comes to tension/gauge/etc. ]

I tought I sounded like crap when I heard myself on that video, couldn't believe my huge accent. I always thought I didn't have one

Thanks Kerry, as a matter of fact I connected the preamp on it today. I'm totally shocked at the difference in sound. All of a suddent both the C# and F# came alive

are you using a router on the majority of the body to create the rounded edges, or are you sanding it by hand? Secondly, the slope on the body where the forearm lays, are you creating a rough slope with a wood rasp then sanding? Thanks (im new at all this).

I do the edges and forearm/tummy cuts with rasp and files. Some people use roundover bits for the edges.

The time & effort sorting the short video clip out really helped to give an idea of just how big an instrument it is...

Time for an update.

The bass is in the final setup stage at this moment and will be shipped out very soon. Here's a few pics of the Brisbane Talkbass GTG that happened 2 weeks ago with members Blizzard and Daveze playing it.
