Well, I still haven't found a Precision Bass Plus body to use with the full 22-fret Jazz neck I already have, but I just got a good deal on a '89 Jazz Plus body that will work with that neck. I prefer a P/J configuration with a Precision body shape, so I'm still hoping I can find a P-Bass Plus body for a reasonable price, but if not, at least I have this Jazz Plus body and can just have it routed for a Precision pickup and put a new pickguard on it:

Cool colour also! So that neck fits the neck-pocket and nut to saddles is 34"?Correct. The only thing that isn't directly compatible is the bolt hole pattern. The A/S J is the traditional four bolt pattern, whereas the 2008 American Deluxe Jazz necks were drilled for the five bolt neck plates (see first pic below), so I am getting ready to fill the existing bolt holes with dowels and install four threaded inserts in the heel to match the four bolt pattern (see second pic below).That looks very nice! I recently had my p-bass plus rewired with Bartolini classic p/j's. As part of this a new antique ivory pickguard was added. The Barts couldn't be set up with the p pickup series/parallel switch so essentially I have telecaster wiring and love it. Toggle is solo P or J or Both. There is a volume and tone (not the original tbx) and that's it.
As far as sounds go the original lace sensors had the most awesome sound with the J soloed. But I never liked the P or PJ sound. The new Barts have an awesome solo P and PJ sound. Surprisingly the J soloed doesn't sound as good to me as the original lace but it's still pretty sweet and having awesome sounds from the P and PJ more than make up for it, has really opened up this bass for me.
I've been playing this with flats of late.

the bass arrived and it's super clean. no dings or damage and no noticeable fret wear. sounds pretty good, too.
The Longhorn Jazz body was delivered today and the NOS 2008 American Jazz Deluxe neck I had is a perfect fit. Intonation was dead-on with a few quick turns of two saddle screws, and the bass feels and sounds fantastic.That looks very nice! Another mint condition A/S J!
I'll post better photos after I have a chance to clean it up and gets some shots in decent lighting, but out of respect for the TB "pics or it didn't happen" rule, here's a couple of quick snapshots of my new "FrankenBoner" Jazz!
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the bass weighs just 8lbs 15ozs and, with the combination of the extended horn and the smaller 2008 headstock and Hipshot Ultralites, it hangs on a strap better than any Jazz I've ever played! And, as wonderful as it feels/plays, it sounds even better. I think this one is a keeper.

I saw that and am curiously watching. An eBay auction is a determination of current worth, as in what someone will pay today. I'm going to guess it holds at that price. The one below may want to lower their price after this auction is over...

updated: As I guessed. So I bought my '93 A/S J years ago for about that same price. Considering that the 'worth' is holding at $620 ish.
To change the subject - here's a real gem from the early 90's being offered by the same seller. These are pretty cool and due to what it is, how many were made and when it was produced - it's a collectors item. It also has the Kubicki-Fender 9v preamp. At 10lbs+ - it's over my weight cut-off.

Well, that return auction on eBay just ended after nearly 40 bids at $720 + $50 shipping. So worth more this time around. It's fun watching the last minutes of an eBay auction having no skin in the game.

This is my 1993 American Standard Jazz in Lipstick Red. It's in fantastic condition and has the chainsaw OHSC and all the case candy (original hang tag, owner's manual, specifications booklet, Fender embroidered strap, etc,). This is the nicest of my three Longhorns, and it has my favorite neck (very slim), but I think there's good chance I will wind up selling it based on weight and string spacing. It's not that heavy at 9.8lbs, but that's about a pound more than the others, which have Hipshot Ultralites and replacement bridges with 17.5mm spacing. The bridge and F logo tuners on this one are are in perfect condition and I don't think I have the heart to switch them out. It is also VERY red! (I love the way it looks by itself, but I've always been uncomfortable drawing attention to myself and when I strap it on and makes me a bit self-conscious because it feels kinda flashy).

Wow -maybe it's the lighting but it almost looks hot pink-red! I have a very red '93 and it doesn't look that red. I also modded/dialed it. I always thought it could be Monza Red if it wasn't Lipstick Red. But yours is such a pristine specimen! So you've owned it since '93 (bought new)? Wasn't clear on that. Good luck selling it - play up the time-capsule aspect - like owning a Lipstick Red '66 GTO in stock condition!
Seeing my ill-lit pic, maybe it is the same red! I upgraded to vintage Schaller Deluxe tuners (like on the P-Plus and Jazz+), Schaller 3D bridge (hated the orig too-wide 3-screw bridge), Nordstrand NJ4 pu's (orig neck pu died), custom cut pearl pg, and in this pic - Gretsch pointer knobs! (old pic - it now has black knobs that otherwise are the same as those Gretsch knobs! Mine was heavy also. So I chambered/lightened it under the pg. Not a huge weight reduction - but after doing it and forgetting I had done it - I picked it up and noticed it was lighter. Not bad for limited real-estate excavation! Anyway - I love my '93 - love the neck and after all the mods - love playing it & love how it sounds. If a bass has something, it's worth making it your own.

Nice! Those may be my all time favorite Fender tuners. Does Schaller sell the chrome 3D bridge with black saddles, or did you buy a chrome one and a black one and then swap the saddles? I'd like to see how the Lipstick Red would look with that bridge and the a Black Pearl pick guard.

I recently chambered (filled a section of the body with holes!) to lighten my '93 A/S J. Lost a bit of weight (it helps) and unless someone removes the pg - none the wiser. It's now at 9lbs/4oz - down from 9lbs/12oz. It just shows how much weight-loss is possible chambering under a J pg.
An older pic - I had an Audere harness in it for a bit - but like it more as a passive bass so switched it back.
