Boogie Bodies Club

Well, this may be a smaller club than even the Hamer club....

...I can't be the only player with a Boogie, am I? Show us your basses!

That's a good looking bass. Mind if I ask what the third knob is for?

In my foolish youth I screwed another pickup onto the body near the bridge [you can make out the holes on the body pic] and drilled out the pick-guard to wire it up with a blend pot and phase switch for the second pickup....now the pot is filling a hole. I've been looking around for some nice looking plugs to cover the two extra holes.

The body is solid birdseye maple as is the neck and fretboard. On my cheapo scale she weighs in at around 10#....though at the end of the night it feels a lot heavier!

Hey guys, I have an opportunity to pick up a 5 string Boogie Bodies bass. It's a split P/J pickup design with EMGs and a bolt-on neck with a deep pocket. Neck looks really wide, though.

Anybody play a 5 string and can tell me about the neck.

And more to the point... what would a fair price be?

I think these things are so rare as to be difficult to price. Of course MINE is PRICELESS!

Assuming the instrument is in order, does $1k sound a bit steep to you? I was thinking more like $800.
And if anybody here is dying to get this 5 string, I can put you in touch with the seller. I'm just thinking about it, but I would totally step out of the way if someone was SERIOUS.

I used to have a Boogie Bodies bass. I went to middle and high school in Puyallup, right up the road from Lynn's shop. Someone sold me this bass for something like $75 at the time (1987). I don't know the circumstances, but that seems like WAY too low to be anything but stolen. Being 17 at the time, I didn't ask any questions.

I was told the body was chambered. It might have been walnut, but possibly mahogany. It's been too long. It had a beautiful flamed maple neck, and a pair of single coil pickups that looked like soapbars - I've no idea what brand they were. It also had a Schaller "roller" bridge, oddly placed string tree, 3 way pickup selector and I believe 1 volume and 1 tone control.

I had the bass for maybe 6 months before it was stolen from me (I foolishly left it in the back seat of my car at school one afternoon/evening).

Rumor had it that this bass appeared in a pawn shop in Tacoma in the mid to late '90s, so maybe someone bought it and has it . . . hard to know.

Anyway, if you recognize this bass, or know something about it, it'd be neat to hear.
