Boomy Lows, Inaudible Highs

sabotage...
After further investigation, I'm now pretty sure some twot messed with my amp and Bass. Ultra-low engaged and bass knob turned all the way up on the Bass. This presents several things:

1. Lesson learned. This will never be a problem again, as I will check my stuff before each set. It was a lesson I had to learn, so I can thank "Steve" for making me learn it early.
2. It could have been a coincidence that two unlikely things happened at the same time. About a 50% chance of that. But I'm going to complete the rest of the post as if it was a deliberate act.
3. As I returned to the stage for the second set, "Steve" (a Bass player in the drummer's other band) was talking to our drummer (who he knows) and looking at my rig. He offered, "nice rig, I'm gonna steal it!" as an opening gambit. I'm fine with this sort of banter, even from complete strangers.
4. Was it a prank from a benign larrikin? At a massive stretch, I could see myself playing this prank on our old Bass-player, a great friend of mine, massively experienced and a veteran of a thousand gigs; I might enjoy his puzzled look for a song before strolling up and putting things back. The best I could hope for was a roll of the eyes for a pretty lame joke. Outside of that, there is no way I would even consider doing this to a stranger and Steve shows a massive lack of judgement to make that decision. He also knew it was our first gig with a new lineup, which puts that decision totally beyond the pale. Wanker move.
5. Was it a c**t-act by a complete arseclown? Given the circumstances, this is the most likely. Anybody with the info he had and the complete lack of relationship we have, who made that decision is a thoroughly despicable person of the first order.
6. I'll need to talk to my drummer to find out if 4 or 5 is true, or even if 2 is true. I'd love to hear, "No way, Steve's a great bloke, that doesn't sound like him at all."
7. Depending on the outcome, I can't wait till next gig, where I'll be saying something like, "Speaking of Ultra-Low, it's great to see Steve here. Hi Steve, f**cked with any rigs lately, you pointless bastard? Tell you what, there a Bass up here if you want to come and try to take it off me. No? Thought so. Git." I'll make my tone one of friendly banter, but he'll know it's not, because we're not friends. Petty catharsis? You bet! It's also calling out bad behaviour, a public service and maybe a night off for Steve's family.

What do you think? Ever happened to you? What did you do?
