Man I thought it was an awesome demo. Showcased it very well. Oh well, we all hear different things. Being an owner, I probably know more about subtle differences in tone. I mean, you’re just passing by posting Stuff, if you were honest.

Followed the thread pretty from the start with interest, does that make me a passer by posting willy nilly-maybe, maybe not.
I am sure you know more about the subtle differences in tone on the unit, But i am fully aware about subtle differences in tone ;)

I have always maintained that i think the unit can do a better job than what PH has done given the many videos he has done which do very little to show the nuances of what pedals can do, but more he dials in a Very similar sound in every OD/distortion etc. Pedal/Multi fox/sound he does and then plays a decent lick (he is a decent player) framing his videos at a speed which gives maximum string wobble visual effect.

Its what he does, and fair play to the guy if he is making a success.

BUT - as an owner only you (and other owners) will be able to tell us, is that performing at its utmost best, or does it have more under the hood.

I went back and listened again to see if i was being harsh, and maybe he is trying to approximate tones rather than nail, maybe its a bit harsh, but......

Royal Blood - unmitigated mess
Higher ground - if you cant make a Ray sound like a Ray you are onto a loser, and guess what - that wont be the pedal i am sure.
Beastie Boys - wrong
The Mars Volta - is ok,just
Tool - first part fine - heavy part, yep - sounds like the baked in Darkglass type tone he always dials in which follows the same for other tracks like Metallica, Motörhead
RATM - that was a joke, at least play the correct bass line as well.

I’ll re-iterate - I don’t think the gear is at fault and i trust you will be able to confirm this or not. He has gone to mimic very specific tones and hasn’t managed it. If I wasn’t aware of how he plays, i would blame the pedal, as it stands, I don’t.

How are the octaves and OD on the GT1000core?

Right now I use a Zoom B3n, but I have separate pedals for the octave and OD. If they are good on the GT100 core then I could reduce my pedal board to just the GT1000core (plus some external add on foot switches) and my Shure wireless.

There are five ways to get an Octave effect. They all sound different and have many parameters to change the way they sound. They can track really well or sound glitchy. The Bass Octave can sound glitchy with my instrument. I found a sound I like using the Overtone and Octave Poly mode in parallel.

Here are some brief descriptions of each effect. For example:

Octave - adds a note -1 and -2 octaves lower, 2 modes poly and mono.
Bass Octave - adds -1 and -2 Octave lower. Does that OC 2 synth sound.
Overtone - adds new harmonics to the sound -1 Octave below.
Pitch Shift - changes the pitch of the original sound (up or down) within a range of two octaves.
Harmonist - can create Octave effect based in the diatonic scale -2 Octaves below unison.

The bass overdrive/distortion/fuzz sounds fantastic. They all sound natural and organic. Everything from slight hair to over the top. Depends on your bass as well I guess. You can use parallel processing and use guitar overdrives etc. Too vast to list here the dirt side of things. I ain't no sales person for this thing, but the GTCore suits me fine.

@Cuzzie you're certainly free to speak your mind. And we're free to process and react as we wish. IMO, you sound like a large Johnson. The guy is a part time YouTuber who runs his channel in his free time, as well as working a 9-5 career. He's managed to land a paying gig and free gear by providing an audience entrainment. He does a great job by himself on a very short timeline to test, script, record, edit, etc.

If you feel you bring so much more to the table would you be willing to do your own video and show us all how it's done?

Maybe I am a large Johnson speaking my mind, maybe I am just a regular chap speaking my mind.
I don’t wish the guy any harm, or any lack of success in either his part time or full time job.

I have neither the video/sound editing skills nor his playing skills to be able to do a demo, but that’s not the point, it’s about trying to cut through what is put out there and critically appraise it on its content and make a decision on what a piece of equipment delivers.

I like the guys at Basstheworld and their videos are entertaining, BUT, their reviews are paid for by the manufactures of the pedals they review and they won’t review something that is not paid for (I know production etc. costs). What this means is that all their reviews will invariably be positive, so you have to read between the lines - it’s not a criticism but a critique-that’s slightly different.

Compare this to reviews by:-
Ed Friedland - bass whisperer
Steve Cook - Premier Guitar
Dan Veall - Guitar interactive magazine
Mr Excane for pedals

They are very balanced reviews across the board.

I have no axe to grind with anyone or PH.
All I said is he seems to dial in a very similar, or pretty much the same sound every time he has an OD or distortion pedal - for that reason it’s hard to differentiate between the different pieces of equipment. I have looked at a lot of his videos, and I mean a lot, and that’s a conclusion I have come to - I may be fully right, fully wrong or partially right.

I never dissed him, I never dissed the Boss unit.

Just because I don’t have his skill set (it’s not a cop out, I really don’t) in playing or production doesn’t mean that I have cloth ears, or cannot hear nuances. I am pretty sure he couldn’t do my day job, but that’s not to his detriment.

If that opinion makes me a massive Johnson, a douche or anything else of a similar vein, then so be it and I apologise if I have caused offence, but honestly I cannot see how I have been offensive.

I’m confident Patrick’s doing ok from his you tube channel if the number of views and adverts are anything to go by. I’d agree a lot of his demo’s sound similar but then that’s maybe the tones he’s drawn to or simply just the ones I’m not. And in spite of his 9-5 I don’t believe he’s on any specific time constraint unless the loaner gear from the companies who pay him to demo their gear need it back in a hurry?

If an opinion is stated which someone doesn’t agree with isn’t it a bit of a d*ck move to then attack that person in the same manner which you were initially upset with? If folks are so easily triggered maybe they should lay off the forums and take a nice walk out in nature. If you’re unable to get out and about please enjoy these pictures.

This pic, I don’t understand, at all. The Core has both the BB-1X and the BC-1X built in, so why on Earth would you double those up?

If I decide to go with the Core, the whole point would be to condense the five or six Boss pedals that make up my current board (TU-2, AD-2, BC-1X, (boost), BB-1X, RV-6) into one box that takes up less room than three of my existing pedals, allowing me plenty of space to add options from tc electronic, One Control, and DSM/Humboldt that Boss doesn’t offer, without increasing the size of my pedalboard.

FWIW, demos of people attempting to replicate someone else’s tone are of zero interest to me. What I need to know is whether or not the unit is capable of achieving *my* sound, not someone else’s.

I don’t play in a cover band, and never will, but even on the occasions when I’ve played covers, I feel no obligation to sound like the original artist. If that’s your bag, then knock yourself out, but if I want to hear the original tone, I’ll put the recording on.

I’m glad Patrick does what he does. There are few enough bass specific channels out there. But Patrick is a big boy with a big following and doesn’t need anyone here to defend him against criticism.

If the user is running convoluted patches, one scenario is the user has run out of blocks DS 1,2, FX 1,2,3 and CMP. There is only one compressor block CMP. If you're using multiple Dividers, this could happen.

I haven't, and have no intention of doing any comparisons. I'm 100% happy with the GTCore and the authenticity of the digital modelling. I think digital modelling has come of age between the major effects brands. Sure there's going to be strengthens and weaknesses between the effects units in terms of what a user is wanting/needing. And brand makers or influencers are going to spin that their's is the best.

It might boil down to what brand you're most familiar or comfortable with.

Have any of the bosses on this thread compared the GT-1000 or GT-1000 CORE to the similar products from Line 6 and Fractal? I want to get a multi-FX/modeler black box (for bass and guitar) but man, it's a tough call.

Agree - I’ve used a few modellers, abd now it’s more about budget and ancillary features, it’s not hard to get good basic sounds any more.
