Boss GT 1000Core

Been playing around with my general all purpose patch. Think I'm super happy with it at the moment.

The first divider splits high/lows set to hpf 125hz/lpf 400hz for effects. The DIV 1 divider on the high chain is my dirty channel featuring a Rat, noise gate, compressor and EQ.

Then it runs in to my ME Super 800+ preamp, it's nice having this upfront for quick tweaks or to add some always on growl on top of whats coming from the GTK.

Then I split for the amps using hpf 200hz/lpf 400hz into the Natural Bass/Concert AIRD preamps. I have some EQ blocks there if I need them but not really found much need yet.

I'm just using the stock 8x10 bass cabsim for a PA or playing loud or if I'm on headphones I'll use a MESA RR 2x15 cab sim which just sounds a little fuller at low levels.

I've been using this for everything from softer folky type music right through to grungy stoner rock. Just a little tweaking on my preamp pedal to get the right amount of warmth/grit, the bright switch on my super 800+ is an awesome touch for getting lots of twang playing with a pick.

Looks like a very durable setup.

Random PSA. Needed a lightweight case for my backup GTKCore that could be tossed into a suitcase or accessory bag. Found that the dimensions of the GTK are nearly identical to the Canon CP1300 mini printer, and there are plenty of cases for that model.

Bought one of those Chinese semi-rigid EVA cases on Amazon. The case in question is branded ALKOO, and was the nicest I could find with the padded divider flap and a zippered accessory pocket in the lid. Takes the pedal, a power brick, and some accessories. Had a bit of a chemical smell but, it dissipated within a couple days.

Received my GT1000Core today. Here is my review after a few hours of editing en listening to most of the effects and amps. I also have an Axe fx 2 and Eventide H9 for many years and had some other mutli effects before (like the Boss GT-5 way back). I play and teach both guitar and bass.

First impressions:
-damn it's small! That's good
-editing on the unit itself is pretty easy and much more instant than on the Axe fx. Haven't tried the software of the GT1000 yet. I like the five knobs under the screen and the first page mostly has all the right parameters you want to adjust on a gig or rehearsal. So that's less menu diving.
-The Axe fx is much more flexible and has deeper editing and more parameters and possibilities. For some this can be a minus of the Axe fx though because it's more complex.
-Most fx's sound pretty good but can't compete with the H9 or Axe fx. I thought the Chorus and the Touch wah and autowah are a bit dissapointing. And also the sitar sim and defretter.
The delays, reverbs, phaser and bass octave sound good. Pitch shifter sounds a bit better in the Axe fx and H9 and has less options.
-I found a few nice amps for guitar but didn't like all of them. The three bass amps sound nice. Especially the natural end the X-DRV Bass.

So I am still a bit mixed because I used the Axe fx for so long. I prefer most of the things from the Axe fx but some things are better on the Boss (like the layout and editing on the screen).
I guess I have to give it some time. I bought the GT1000 so I can leave my Axe fx 2 for in the studio and use the GT1000 for live (less stuff to carry).

I have a few questions:
1) what bass compressor settings do you prefer in the GT-1000 and why?
2) if I understand it correctly the GT1000 chooses the 'right' cab automatically when you select another amp. Correct? Is there a certain bass amp/cab combination that you prefer that is not standard?
3) I haven't dived in the stompbox mode yet. Can someone maybe explain in a few lines how you use this? It is a bit different than on other multi-fx that I have used.
4) is there a way to make the knobs scroll faster? like in numbers of 10 for example?

4) Press down on the knob, then turn.

5) If you want a parameter 'assigned' ; in the effects-menu keep the rotary of this parameter pressed and it will bring you to the the 'next free assign slot' in the 'assign menu' (otherwise there is a lot of scrolling involved in the assign menu' itself).

'Assigns' are used to switch on/off more than one fx-blocks with one footswitch in 'manual mode' (as it is on the GT-5). On/off is not a parameter in the fx-menu, but you can scroll one parameter down once you have assigned the first parameter visible in the fx-menu and it's there...

6) To get the max. reverb level go menu>in/out settings>total and set reverb level to 200% (default=100%)

If you want to change cab sims, set your Output to Recording and you can choose which cab you like with an amp. I use a Dived before my cabs, and have an 8 x 10 on one side and a 2 x 12 (2) which is the cab for JC 120 I believe. I run the 8 x 10 side full range, and have a HPF set for the other side. Sounds really good through my Katana 210.

Follow up on my intermittent cut-off issue I've been having with my Core, I've traced it to poor connections in the audio cables in the FX loops.

The Core does not just cut off or have a weaker signal if a cable is disconnected or flaky, it will instead trigger some software behavior that manifests itself as digital artifacts in the sound.

I cleaned all jacks with a quick spray of QD electronics cleaner and the issue is gone!
