just moved the gear over from the nano to the rockboard, so much more space underneath. I don’t know why I thought I’d be ok with that big EAE Longsword shaped gap though

It disables cab sims but not the amp
Sweet that makes sense. I have an audition for an originals band on Sunday and I think I will be going through an amp (they told me they have an amp at their rehearsal space). I had practice today with the covers band and I plugged into my amp (I keep my Fusion 550 and 4x10 at band HQ), i had changed to bass amp with tweeter beforehand and it sounded pretty good. BTW, I am using your MB800 patch in a couple of songs, so good!

Awesome glad you’re getting use out of it! Really need to push some updates soon but need to get my pc set up with tone studio as work have changed policy on what we can install on our MacBooks.

@BEADist you had the real HM2 didn’t you? How did you find the gt one compared if you ever tried?

Just curious about how the settings on the gt correlate to the real thing. I guess the same applies to and of the drives compared to their real world counterpart.

It is a while ago since I did the comparison. Not sure how to describe the difference...maybe 'the grain of the HM2 is bigger, the Core a bit more fuzzy'. Especially with the more Xtreme settings.

Of course the Core version has only 1 tone control so it needs an extra EQ block to get closer. This is not practical because IME the HM2 always needs fine tuning, especially when you are playing with a guitar player with a RAT based distortion.

Maybe it depends on the application how good the simulation works.

In a band/live mix probably no one would notice, like with every distortion on bass, we only do this for ourselves haha!

Haha yeah that’s super interesting. I do love the GT HM2 but it’s definitely more fuzzy than other samples I’ve heard but it so hard to tell anything from demos etc.

I think one thing I’ve learned from time with the GTK is that as interesting as it is to play with echo, reverb, phasers and flangers etc I only actually need a nice preamp, decent drive and a compressor.

It’s super useful for guitar stuff and recording etc though and fun for playing around so no plans to fully streamline.

Pedalboard that I used 'pre-Core' :
Twice the size and weight, also a lot more tap dancing to switch between clean, drive and swell sounds. And with the Core compressor settings are more tailored to the different sounds as well. And I have a good send to FOH solution now also.

Still satisfied with this Core solution, mainly for practical reasons.

Aye that’s a good point, I’ve not had the opportunity to try it live yet but having a totally separate signal for FOH is pretty handy.

Yeah I don’t think I’d go for a bigger board than I’ve got now, if I didn’t have the signal and frequency routing options I think I’d miss it a lot. It’s also super hand to be able to take it elsewhere, plug-in some headphones and play.

Having not read through 77 pages, I’ve got a couple questions.

How many effects can you assign to one foot switch in manual mode? If I’m doing a synth sound, using three or four effects, can they all be assigned to one switch, or is that more of a preset situation?

How is the pitch shifting?

You can assign a footswitch control one fx block but you can setup upto 16(?) assigns that let you turn on/off or tweak values of just about anything.

You could of course loadup a divider with A/B and have all your fx you want to use together on A and have B as your clean channel etc.

Theres quite a few ways you can do it but makes sense to have a little play first.

A little rant, I think Boss really need to realise they're in the Tech/Software sector now with the mordern multifx like the GT.

Their software is embarrasing when you look at stuff like Darkglass are putting out there. I really like the fact they put out Tone Exchange despite it being pretty limited but I could've stuck that site together over a couple of weekends.

The fact theres an app for editing patches, one to upload IRs, one to update firmware (I think?), something else to edit ouput modes (never tried it) and the fact that they're all painfully slow and buggy is ridiculous. It's maddening that you can't testdrive IRs before uploading them too. I ended up just using space designer in Logic to trial them as it was taking too long to sift through 200 slight variations of Orange cabinets.

It all screams of a company building products on a mountain of tech debt, such a shame because the GT1000core is a great bit of kit but could be so much better.

Also a yearly/bi-yearly update cadence isn't good enough either, especially not when you compare with other brands.

Maybe try the Helix Stomp? :D

I am using a Linux PC, so for me there is no Tone Exchange or editor. I do everything on the unit and have not even updated. I use it for what it was when I bought it and never have any 'device-stress' (setting up midi-devices/bluetooth/IR's) I program my own acid/tekno software but with my bass/band music I stay as far away from a PC as possible!

End of my rant :)

Yeah thats fair, I think I actually really editing on the unit itself mostly. I'm so glad it isn't touch based as I find any touch interfaces that aren't phone quality are incredibly tedious to work with. I also think the sounds are much better than the Helix etc.

For me, the supporting software is the only real weak point for me with the CORE, the hardware is excellent. I'd care much less if I could find a consisten band and wasn't spending so much time writing and fiddling by myself though :D

Right after I bought my Core I was fiddling a lot with it (of course) now I just use it and hardly ever touch a knob, just sometimes to adjust the noisegate to get the right amount of feedback from the distortion. It fulfills my needs perfectly, I don't have to pay any attention to it.

Sometimes I miss the fiddling, like I miss the activity in this thread...
