27032817[/URL], member: 388833"]Those knobs I took from my GT-8 that's having a closet life now. Those GT-8 knobs have a position marker, of course the Core rotaries don't need those. I cannot tell you where to buy suchs knobs but I think you know your way on the web:thumbsup:.

I am using the SansAmp amp/speaker sim that is tried and tested for a long time. FOH-people connect their XLR with convidence to this setup. I tried to recreate this SA-sound with the Core and got real close but decided to keep the SA in case there is no FOH and I have to work with an amp (EQ) I don't know. With the SA I have a good 'hands-on' option.

Succes with you're jam!

Edit: the X-drive works REALLY well in front of the SansAmp:hyper:

Ah nice, yeah I hesitantly removed one of the knobs on the core and they seem like standard 6mm ones so will get some nice ones ordered. I reckon a nice wide flat metal one for the volume would look awesome too.

And thanks!!! It’s pretty technical and a little on the atonal noise rock spectrum so it’s gonna need some revision!

Makes sense if you can use them, I’ve personally struggled to dial in the right preamp/drive tone via onboard fx so a few options are handy.
Ive had trouble with the onboard preamps too. I was hoping I could get the same tone of the Broughton out of the core, and I may be able to get close, but that box is great. I'm surprised I kinda like it more than my Olympic at the moment. Sheesh. The guitar amp selection is a little better, but still doesn't beat a dedicated preamp.

Same boat, I got close to the tone I wanted but not quite there. The FeT is just next level for the sound I want, it breaks up beautifully when you crank it and stacks with drives perfectly. The power amp emulation gives it a really nice fullness too which means it sounds pretty great even without cab sim.

You could split the signal into 2 channels, have one for Sub Out, and the other for Main Out
Which out should I use? This might not work, as I have 3 splits already. I’m thinking of running the out to the sub amp right after my comp which is right before my clean/dirt split, and putting a HPF in front of the sub out.

You should be able to move it wherever in the chain you want. If you’re out of dividers and old want a hpf on the sub out without influencing the signal path you’d probably need to apply it via the sub outs eq perhaps?

If you used a EQ block for the HPF it’d apply to everything after it too.

Best having a play though, there are a few quirks with how the signal processing works on the GT with dividers, stereo and outputs I think.

Noted. Thanks.

One disappointing thing on the CORE I've found is that if you don't have an FX Send assigned as SUB OUT in hardware then when using as an interface you don't get access to the SUB OUT either.

When I've been doing recording I've found it super useful to have a full Main out (channels 1+2) with cabsim and time based fx, then have sub out (channels 5+6) further down the chain before any reverb/delays/cabsim. Then still have the DRY signal (channel 3+4) too for blending back in or re-amping.

Not the end of the world, just a mild annoyance that seems like theres no obvious reason it shouldn't work.

Noted. Thanks.

I was wrong, when you have your main/sub out it actually provides you with a handy split in the signal path letting you put stuff before/after the cab sim without influencing anything else in the chain:

Should be pretty easy to pop some eq or mastering fx in there as needed.

Anyone using a Morningstar MC, can you program it to turn individual effects on and off within a patch? My plan is to have it on a "home page" with switches assigned to different patches. Once you stomp on a patch that goes to a different page with the individual effects assigned to the switches. Can that be done?

Boss GT-1000 Core vs Boss MS-3

I've had MS-3 for since 2021 and it's a wonderful piece of kit. It took my pedalboard to a higher level and I have loved it so far, but Core got my attention because of IRs and better DSP.
I use MS-3 as a looper (octaver and drive in loops) and MIDI controller (for Future Impact synth), but occasionally I use some of it's integrated effects. What I'd like to achieve with Core is downsizing, but retaining most of the same flexibility I have now.

So, can Core do the following:
  1. Use external footswitch to scroll through the banks. I have FS-7 connected to MS-3, and us that to go through the banks. Every bank has three presets. #1 is always a clean with no effects, the other three some kind of patch. So effectively, I'd like to have the patches in groups of three, meaning that every switch maps to a different patch inside of that bank.
  2. Does the Core have a "Manual" mode - MS3 has a dedicated switch that allows me going "inside" of a patch and 4 switches can now be programmed to do something inside of selected patch. So, can I have that in Core using another external switch? Let's say I have a patch that consists of a drive and a chorus. Can I turn the chorus off/on without changing the patch using one of the three switches? And then hit the external switch and go back to bank/path mode where every switch corresponds to a different patch?
  3. Can I make IR work globally, having the same Impulse Response on every patch?
  4. There are L and R outputs - can I have the IR to work on one channel only? I want to feed my amp with effects only, and send the same signal, but with IR to a DI.
  5. Can I have an effect (or two) work globally, on every patch? I was hoping I could have a compressor at the beginning of the chain without updating every patch when I make an adjustment.
  6. MS-3 does MIDI Program Change only on a patch change. If Core has a "manual" mode, can it send PC messages?
I may have forgotten something, but hopefully someone will be able to answer my questions

PS
Here's the pedalboard. I sold the Xerograph, and FS-7 is now in it's place. I was hoping to eliminate MXR preamp and Source Audio After Shock, maybe even EBS Multicomp located underneath the pedalboard

What the Core can NOT do : assign the 3 footswitches to select patch 1, 2 or 3. It is hard to believe but it is true.

Some time ago someone on this tread was really disappointed with the small amount of amp simulations on the Core and switched back.

3 & 5 : Yes there is method to have an effect set globaly, but the on/off status is still determined by the patch and how it is set in a patch! (this can be a disadvantage or a advantage depending your application..)

4. Yes!
2. There is a 'manual'- mode, but I do not use it so do not know about quirks with it...

Edit : the disappointment with lack of amp-sims vs Core was with GT-1B I remember now.
Edit2 : The Core has only 2 send/returns, but they can be seperately anywere in the chain.

In my previous post about the global functionality of the Core I made a mistake. This is about question nr. 3, can an IR be set globally. If you want to change an IR globally you would have to change/load the IR for the slot you are using in every patch.

You can not scroll through your IR-slots and hear those in every patch. So, you CAN change an IR globally but not in a way that is practical and considered 'changing a parameter globally'.

Please, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Nah, don't worry, you have been very helpful, and so far it looks like the only show-stopper might be inability to assign different patches to each of 3 switches.
So, I could work around this if I could do the following: can I cycle through the patches (using the external switch to), and jump straight into manual mode, where I could assign different functions to each switch? That way I could switch to the patch for the next song where I use the clean sound, activate switch 2 to turn the synth on via MIDI, then go back to clean using switch 1, then activate drive using the switch 3, then turn the drive off and activate the synth with switch 2 etc...

Another demo of a couple of sounds I’ve been working on. Chancing tone never stops. But anyway, I’ve been recording using the GTKC’s USB interface. And in this recording I can hear some artefacts being introduced, mainly pops. I’ve made sure the levels are low, so it’s not a clipping sound. So I’ve concluded that the AD/DA converter for recording isn’t up to a pro level. Making demos it’s plenty good enough. But when I’ve recorded the GTKC through a USB interface, the sound quality is better imo, and probably good enough for distributing on multiple platforms. I have no idea how this unit converts analog to digital to analog in terms of effects. I’m assuming that’s a seperate process to the USB interface?

Interesting! Might break out my Scarlet interface again although I don’t have a DI to take a clean signal so I’d probably stick to the core as an interface.

You can connect the GTKC to an interface at line level. Just switch the Main Level Line Select to +4dBu and connect using a normal TR cable. But if it works the way you’re using it and it sounds good, then there’s no problem. Just my opinion. My situation is that I’m thinking about starting an Indie Label so I can’t leave anything to chance when distributing songs and albums.
