Well had 2 practices now with the new band. Really struggled with getting the core sounding good at the 2nd when I swapped my BF two10 for an EBS 8x10 and had loads of volume. No difference in my patch that I was aware of or set up but just sounded so compressed and didn’t cut through at all. Ended up stripping my board apart and using my drive and tuner straight into the amp.

Turns out I’d accidentally engaged the Mastering FX block. Sounds great through headphones with cab sim but killed my tone at full volume.

Lesson learned!

When you go to control function and scroll the function setting on CTL 2 you get 'amp ctl1' and ' amp ctl2'. Is that not what you are looking for?

Do you mean assigning the pedal functions?

I want to run a jack from the socket on the back of the core but it seems like the amp control only works when you run the jack from the amps footswitch socket to the CTRL 4/5 on the side of the core. not the end of the world but just a little awkward for how I wanted my pedals arranging.

Haha tbh if I do anything it’s more likely to go the opposite way! Currently I’m literally only using the CORE for very light compression at the start and end of the chain and a very light bit of EQ. I’m not even doing any of the multiband stuff with the drive as I couldn’t get it sounding right in practice.

I’m pretty sure I could condense it all down to an SA Atlas compressor, Model FeT and the Longsword and remove the GTK all together off the board. Still like having it for guitar and experimenting etc.

We’ll see though, really need to get some time with an 8x10 and get it all dialled in for all volumes.

Yeah exactly that, it’s really handy orchestrating everything. As it stands I have the first pedal set to switch my amp channel for some light tubey grit, it also toggles a divider with a fx send for my drive pedal.

Super useful as this means I can go from full filth of my amps OD channel and Longsword with boost to fully clean with one pedal press. Without the core it’d be a load of tap dancing.

Had a bit of a discovery. May have been obvious but I believe it’s better to work things out myself as much as I can. Learn a lot more I think. In the past, I’ve been putting the compressor in one place and leaving it there no matter what. So now, For clean tones I put the compressor Before the AIRD bass amp, and dirty tones I put the compressor After the AIRD bass amp. It sounds and feels a lot more logical, for want of a better word. Further to that, Compressor before acts as a aggressive levelling effect, after, it acts as a subtle smoothing effect… if that makes sense.

Another thing I’ve worked out, is the AIRD Natural bass amp sounds better for clean tones to my ears, and the AIRD X-Drive bass amp sounds better for dirty tones.

But as chasing tone goes, this could all change. What I’m working towards is a hierarchical system for building effects patches.

I got an MC8 for xmas. Well I got one and it arrived around that time, I don't do xmas. It has made my set up and use of the GT1k core a whole lot better. I have set up a "home page" that lets me change patches in the GT1k as needed. If I do a "long press" of the switch, it takes me to a new bank where I can turn individual blocks on and off.

For example, in my Clean patch, once I go to the "Clean" page, I can turn on dirt, eq for slap, a chorus, a phaser and my C4 OC2 octave patch.

I am also using the Natural amp for clean tones and the Xdrive for dirty tones. Another thing I have done is using the original Cab instead of any other IR, sounds better to me.

Yeah I’ve found the same as soon as I started using a separate preamp that was really touch sensitive. Compression after allows for way more control of the tone while still getting a little boost in consistency and fatness.

What I mostly do now is add a very light compression at the start and end. To me it sounds more natural and dynamic than a single compressor block.
