Well it finally happened.

Got a practice tomorrow and couldn’t get stuff sounding like I wanted with the GTK in the small amount of time I had. Ended up stripping my board back to all analog for now.

I’m finding the GK Fusion S OD channel with the Model FeT gives a pretty nice touch sensitive Sansamp like tone with extra clank that works great for this stuff.

I’m missing some of the parallel splitting already for the drives, eq blocks and compression. At least I can start simple, work out what the tone is I want with the pedals and the incorporate the Core to finesse it a little and re introduce cabsims for the DI etc.

The Divider/Mixer block is very addictive. Not sure I could go back to pedals.

Absolutely! I think the only issue I had with dividing by frequency was not really knowing how it was bumping/cutting certain frequencies etc. Need to run a noise generator through and see what’s going on.

I guess with an analog route there’s always stuff like the KMA Tyler etc but it’s a lot of expense and space for something that can be done with just the core.

I think the Core is such a great way to orchestrate everything easily even if you’re not using the fx and amp sims.

The one thing I would say is that the preamp/drives feel better up front hi-z rather than in the loops. Barely noticeable though and definitely not a deal breaker.

View attachment 4923292 I’ve settled (for now!) on this set up. I went the Midi route for awhile, but realized I could just as much, far easier, with the assign function. All powered from the original GTK PSA.
I use the Natural Bass for clean, and X-Drive for a touch of dirt. I run them on a split, with a HPF on the dirt side.

Now that I've played with Sound Hold a bit, I really wish it had an option for a "tail off" rather than an abrupt stop when the effect is turned off
I may be wrong, but I believe the only sustain pedal with a tail option is the stunningly expensive GameChanger Plus. The GC also appears to be significantly smoother than the SH. $380 for a single effect is a lot of box tops, though....

I have a feeling that using an expression pedal to control the SH level might work better than reverb.

Just hacking stuff around to try and get everything working together nicely.

Currently got my DI before my amps return so I can either run my core into it or just skip the core completely. Trying to get to a position where I can A/B some different setups and record some samples and compare directly in a more scientific manner.

Having the core on my board makes a lot of stuff way simpler to manage if I can’t get it sounding as good. Up until last year I only ever had a compressor pedal straight into an amp so things have escalated

PS has anyone used the re-amping features on the GTK?

I’m using my Scarlet as an interface as I think it’s slightly warmer than direct from the core via usb (barely perceptible). I have a Radial DI between my bass and tuner, then a DI from my bass amp into the other channel.

I think if I can create a combined device in macOS I should be able to use my Scarlet and the GTK at the same time, not sure if anyone’s tried it?

To re-amp you just set your DRY channels output to channel 3 in the DAW and it’ll re run that DRY signal back through the core I believe?

I’ve done some work with the re-amping feature. It’s simple to set up. The how to is in this guide.
BOSS - The Ultimate Guide to GT-1000
Setting up a USB interface and the GTCore to use simultaneously seems fairly straight forward from what I’ve read. Haven’t tried to do it yet. It’s called an Aggregate Device in MacOS for Logic.
Quick Tip: Use Multiple Audio Interfaces on Mac OS X
I think I’ll probably go down the Aggregate Device path as I would like as many options as possible. So I figured I would use the GTCore re-amp feature to rough mix while auditioning effects and tones. Then when I’m satisfied with how it sounds, I’ll make a final recording through the USB interface. As I’ve said before, I’m not 100% sure on the quality of USB converter in the GTCore. But that’s just my opinion. Not necessarily right.

Got it working, recorded a dry signal with my Scarlet, routed that back through the core and recorded via the DI on my amp into the Scarlett.

As long as the Core is at the start of the signal chain you’re fine.

Really good approach if you have another interface you prefer and/or you’re using the GT line out into another preamp or amp.

Such a good bit of kit.

Recording via the GTCore USB interface is very clean. I’ve got a Tech21 Q/Strip Preamp/DI. It’s based on a Neve console mic preamp. At one stage I was recording GTCore > Q/Strip DI > Focusrite USB > Logic. The Q/Strip definitely gave the signal some analog warmth.

I’m using my Scarlet as an interface as I think it’s slightly warmer than direct from the core via usb (barely perceptible).
