Boss GT-10B

How is the Pitch Shifter in the GT10b compared to the GT6B or the PS6 stompbox?

I have a 6B (which I have been completely happy with) but I need to be able to detune a haft step on the fly in a band situation I'm in & the the shifter in the 6B is OK for that app but not great.
The Pedal Bend effect is actually better than the pitchshifter.
Just set the pedal bend to a fixed value (like -1) and this will give you a better polyphonic and natural tone.

To activate Tuning mode via a footswitch, you have to assign that function to that footswitch. You can get into "bypass mode" if you a)put the tuner into "bypass" rather than "mute" and b) assign a footswitch to tuner as stated above...
OR
You could assign the on/off function of each effect all to the *same footswitch* which would enable you to turn them all on and off at the same time - BUT be warned, if you have some of the effects with that function assigned to that pedal are on and some off, the off effects will turn on as you try to turn everything else off.

Sound simple? I thought so....

uhhhh yeah

wish they made that a bit easier :eyebrow:

You can also bend over a press the Tuner button on the GT-10B.
I used to use the "Number pedal function control" (setting in the System/Global menu area) to activate the Tuner, it works by pressing the same patch number pedal that you are already on to toggle the tuner.
But the problem was that during a gig i might accidently press the same pedal instead of the next patch change one, or double bounce the pedal when changing patch, and end up with the Tuner on instead, which is normally set to mute.

Still combing through the manual before it arrives

Can the GT10B be setup for "stompbox mode"? What I mean is, can you have the switches be additive? For example, can I turn on compression with a button, then turn on chorus with another and then distortion with a third? If all buttons are "on" I would want compression, chorus and distortion on. If any were "off", that effect would be off but the others on.

Thanks again

Yup. In the "assigns" section, you can set CTRL pedals 1 or 2 or the expression pedal to switch in and out of manual mode if you want to.

yep and this is how i use the gt-10b. For me patches are ways to rearrange pedals in the fx chain. I use it in manual mode, adding fx or other parameters as i need to.

The truly power of the GT-10B is the ability to emulate a real pedalboard.

:)

Still mucking around to get a decent patch for Like A Virgin. I'm not having much success with the actual synth patches but I loaded something up to the GT Central if anyone wants to check it out.

GT Central.

I didn't review it. But in general the synth section of the GT-10B is the biggest disappointment for me. Extremely limited in functionality and not very good sounding IMO.

Yeah. Seems to me I've heard several complaints about the synth section. Too bad. I really want a decent one.

Honestly, there's not a truly excellent, easy-to-play, full featured, great sounding synth pedal out there. The Roland GR-55 is the closest I've found, but isn't entirely natural feeling to play even after months of dinking with it. But it certainly has the best sounds compared to other synth pedals. You can check my pages for sound samples from the Octavius Squeezer and Korg G5. Those are both still fairly limited in the variety of sounds you can generate and are pricey.

oooh

Does this mean I could setup a patch with distortion, chorus and compression, hit the expression pedal (assuming I set it up properly) to go into manual mode and turn on any of those effects with pedals 1-4?

That is too cool

Here is what I really want. 90% of the time I want to be in bypass mode plus compression. I want the ability to turn off the compression and independently turn on distortion, chorus and delay at any time and use the expression pedal for volume swells and another footswitch (or the volume pedal at min) to go into a muted tuner mode. That is doable right? I'm very excited about this :hyper:
