Boss GT-10B

Correct me if I'm wrong (and tell me how I should do it) but when I'm in bypass mode (step twice on a pedal) and I use the volume pedal I automatically return out of bypass mode....

Sounds like a PDL or Assign control issue. I can go into tuner bypass and rock my expression (setup as Volume) all day long. Note my expression is still functional as a volume pedal when in tuner bypass.

One cool way to operate Manual Mode is to assign the Input level to switch to Manual mode.
Where without playing, you are in patch mode and can use the pedals to change patch.
When you start playing and the input level is detected, the GT-10B flips to Manual Mode automatically, until you stop playing, then flips back to patch mode.
From an assign select "Input Level" as the Source and "Moment" as the Source mode.

**********Assign 1***********

[On/Off] = On
[Target] = MANUAL: ManModeSw
[Min] = Off
[Max] = On
[Source] = Input Level
[Source Mode ] = Moment
[Act Rng Lo] = 0
[Act Rng Hi] = 127

You need to copy this across multiple patches. or use the "Bulk Write" feature in GT-10BFxFloorBoard to do it all in one operation.

wow - that is very impressive

I don't think I fully appreciated the configurability of this thing until I started pouring over the manual and asking questions here.

Just so it's perfectly clear, here is Roland's exact text about phantom/DI.

Question:
1. Do the XLR DI outputs on the GT-10B provide any phantom protection?
2. If not, what exactly will happen if the FOH happens to take my XLR output, connect it to a mic channel that has phantom applied?

Hello Christopher,
1. They do not.
2. Again, it's never recommended to connect *any* non-phantom powered device to phantom powered inputs. Doing so will damage the outputs.
Sincerely,
Roland US Product Support

This is great. This is another prove that Boss aimed high with tbe GT-10B. We can configure everything.

Recently I used mine as a DI direct to the board in a studio situation. It sounded fine the first day, but on the second day when I came back in, there was an unexplainable hiss in my DI signal. It doesn't occur in the 1/4" outputs, so I've been able to continue gigging with it normally. But, now that I've read this, I wonder if I may have unwittingly caused some damage to my unit with phantom power in the studio.

And, how the heck would I have known not to just plug the sucker in and use it?

Was this ever resolved?

I experienced the same thing. I dont believe there was a hiss from my XLR outputs when I originally bought the unit, but one day I noticed it. Many times a sound guy has plugged the pedal into a mixer like this.

The 1/4 output is silent and the hiss isnt coming from an instrument. Only on the XLR outputs.

Hi dudes! Hows everyone getting on with what we all agree is a stellar piece of gear?

Quick question....
Is it possible to assign any parameter to the expression pedal? Or only pitch, volume and wah? I.e. could I control the amount of delay feedback with it? I think I heard of some dude doing that.

Any answers appreciated.

You can pretty much control ANYTHING with ANYTHING. So yes, you can control delay feedback. Or delay time. Or delay level. Or delay TYPE. And on and on and on. You can also do this with any of the switches. With a LFO via Wave PDL. Via input level (envelope) so you get more feedback with quieter playing but less with harder playing, or visa versa.

And you can control multiple parameters and effects with one control.

You're mostly limited by your imagination and knowledge of everything the unit can do. :)

Made sure the phantom was OFF on my mixer, and used it as a monitor with headphones.

XLR output is ridiculously HOT so I split the input with a passive DI to match the volumes between the passive DI and the GT10B (had to go from "100" to "20" on the level for the SUB out). Then I connected the mixer only to the GT10B.

I am very disappointed with the level of hiss on the XLR even when in bypass/tuner mode. This is a deal breaker for me. If I cannot resolve it the unit will go back.

I'll go work out and come back to play around with it.

I don't have any XLR hiss problems,
does your desk have a -20dB pad attenuation button?
I suspect the XLR output level is not mic level, but at line level (+4dB - hence the hiss if the level has to be turned down to 20).
Maybe toggle the ground lift switch on the GT-10B may help, at some point the GT-10B case and bass needs to be grounded.

How about the 1/4" main outputs, they might be more suitable for your desk.
