Boss GT-10B

They're not horrible, but not as rich and analog sounding as they could be. I thought the Line6 drive effects where much better sounding when compared directly, and of course regular analog stomps are much better sounding.

With that said, if you're not directly comparing side-by-side I think you'll find the drive sounds plenty usable. The Bass OD and Distortion sound pretty good, the Bass Fuzz is fairly decent.

You can drastically alter the sound of the drive effects by putting compression before and/or after, EQ before and/or after, and even amp sims before/after even if you're running to a real amp. Think of them all as sound sculpting tools instead of compression/eq/amp sim. Blend in some intelligent ringmod for musical VCO type sounds.

But if you simply stick a bare drive effect in there and send it to your amp you may or may not think it sounds the best.

Others may have a different opinion.

+1
Yes I too was able to get dirt I like a lot out of the 10b but it took some tweaking ... def not plug-n-play but not that bad either ... took me 20 or 30 minutes overall messing with it.
It helps if you already know what sound your after :)

The issue is they're not very "full" sounding, and still very digital and fizzy in the high end. Lagging in quality compared to the Line6 drive effects which sound a lot thicker in comparison, particularly in the high gain effects which is where the BOSS drive effects sound the poorest IMO as they get really noisy and buzzy fast.

My guitarist just picked up a GT-8 and it's worst there with it's high gain amp and drive sounds. Sounds very digital and artificial and fizzy. Also makes me appreciate the GT-10B hardware UI, effects chains are easy to manipulate, the whole GT-10B UI is BOSS's best UI to date IMO.

Anyone knows how can I use the pitchshifter effect on the ctl2... and control it with the expression pedal (the one on the gt10b).

To when is not full loaded, the sound is natural (the sound of the bass) and when i press it full down, the pitch effects goes on?

I read and read the manual and nothing is happening.. all the tweaking and what I do, the expression pedal only works as a volume pedal.

:/

I got a Boss GT-6B years ago and it’s easy enough to program and etc but I’ve never used a GT-10B. I like the preamp and Boss compressor the most on the GT-6B, some of the other effect are cool too but the preamp/comp is the what I like best about it. I don’t know if that helps or not because I only read the first and last page of this thread but that’s all I can tell you. Oh, and it has held up well over the years. I replace the battery this years just to be on the safe side but the battery was still ok - over all, the old red Boss GT-6B it’s ok.

FYI: the GT-10B has about 4 times as much stuff packed into it compared with the GT-6B, a quantum leap some might say, i have had both and have compared them side by side.

Check my effects page in my signature for a quick live, ad-hoc simultaneous bass and lead guitar jam using just the BOSS GT-10B built-in effects. Includes sound file and patch.

Not sure what prompted me to do this but something did and I thought it sounded pretty convincing in a mix. Once upon a time someone asked about how to do bass + guitar simultaneously though I think it was rythm guitar power chords instead of schnazzy lead guitar. But this is what I have for you today. :)

Thanks for the advice regarding distortions.

I have read through the Owner's Manual and I haven't found much info on the Effects Loop, Send/Return I thinks its called there, or I have missed it :smug:
If I were to have a separate distortion pedal, for my dirty sounds, connected to the effects loop, could I only assign it to certain patches and recall it through the GT10B?

Absolutely, and much more :smug:
