Boss GT-1B discussion thread

OK... That's funny! I use the identical setup, GT-1B, M87 compressor, and a Mark Bass rig.

I don't have that rug, though...

I like your style, Sir. Classy fellow! the M87 really filled out the tones across the board. I have to go retry all of them now I might end up using more than before. Ran to GC and grabbed a footswitch. Let the stomp boxing begin!

Edit: Those loose cables are GROSS! I guess I need to build a pedal board now... I can't stand cables and wires all over the place. I bought the GT1B so I wouldn't go buying endless pedals. the peripheral compressor I felt was needed... and I was right. Holy COW what a difference. Possibly here soon I'll be adding an MXR M80 preamp DI to the chain, maybe not needed but if I can get it for the right price it won't hurt. What I am currently doing is researching in depth each pedal that the factory patches emulate and fine tuning them to work with my combo amp. The first thing I'm trying to replicate is the flavor of the decade darkglass metal tone. I think It's possible with what I'm working with I'll just have to spend the time messing about. I've noticed after watching endless youtube reviews and demos that everyone points out VERSATILITY and ENDLESS TONE VARIATIONS as huge selling points for pedals, but when you cut out all the BS everyone knows we all really just one one or two very specific tones out of any specific pedal, preamp, effect, etc. I believe in technology and and I believe BOSS has provided the materials to create anything. My wallet prays I'm right!

The funny thing about that compressor is the M87 and M76 are functionally identical, but the word "Bass" silkscreened on the 87 scared off the guitar player purchases so MXR made a second case.

@nuage420b, I got the M80 really cheap, I was looking at Darkglass but ended up with this cheaper awesome alternative for the DI, I use the GT Distortion or fuzz. You got me really interested in the M87, granted I was already looking at this pedal and was looking into selling my GT, and I still have an extra 100mA on the Boss PSA adapter for the pedal board. I really have my heart set on the GT, have you guys tried the overtone and play amazing grace or star spangled banner it’s really cool

So far t he M87 has really been a game changer. Didn't get the M80, the seller is asking 10 bucks less than new price and won't budge. Even after i explained to him that it cannot be registered for warranty anymore and made him what I feel is a fair offer. he's selling a chorus and an envelope too but because he only used them "three times" thinks he'll get all his money back. Oh well, I let him know to hit me up when he changes his mind. Now I'm back to having to choose which preamp I want. The spectra and battalion have caught my eye, but the micro bass iii is really interesting to me as well.

The MXR M81 preamp is pretty cool. It baffles me that people who sell used gear always expect some sort return on investment. I got lucky on the M80 and got it for 40% off, used. I'm pretty handy with electronics so I don't mind soldering new switches, my EBS switch is failing so that's getting fixed.

I feel like this guy isn't a musician, he couldn't tell me what pedals they were at all until he got home despite the chat having the link to his ad? Maybe daddy bought little Johnny stuff he didn't deserve and now he thinks he'll get his money back?

I really hate the USB cables for the C2G into the PC/MAC. I am going to order a Right Angle C2G, those things look like dinosaurs. I use my Ableton Live Software for recordings.

I have a black cord somewhere I hate this grey too lol. I'm going to build a pedal board to hide all these cables. My OCD is going nuts right now with the mess.

I just got them both within the last 2 days, haven't messed with them yet. I believe I want the M87 last to affect the entire output? My amp has DI and I'd like to record what I hear as best I can. If I end up going directly in to my computer I'll obviously need to move the compressor ahead of the pre. I'll have to play around with it all and see what I like and see what sounds like what when recorded. I'm using ableton live as well.

I picked up some pig hog flats and EBSflat patches.

Cool, let me know what sounds good. Try these configurations and let me know, I might want to get the M87 too. I don't run the M80 into the GT, it goes after so that signal isn't going into the recording as you can always use Abelton effects as well.

Bass, M87, GT1B, M80

@elpancho So I flipped the m87 in front of the m80 and HUGE difference. The effects are more pronounced, notes more defined. Plus as you said better to end with the DI into the computer. I haven't paired the MXR stuff up to the GT1B yet. I want a feel for these first amd to know how to really use them before I use them to enhance the GT1B patches.

Nice, just be careful. It’s gets addicting, you might need a bigger board. Lol

@elpancho I already know I do... I'm about to buy the DG A&O and a poly tune... and i think I'll try to get another pair of footswitch so I can assign 5 different pedals to stomp.

I impressed myself with how rigid that ghetto pedal board is. I literally dug around the garage for 10 minutes grabbed some stuff and figured it out as I went. I'll replace the motorcycle clamps with something a little more permanent and wrap some velcro firendly carpet around the top but for now it works and it cost me free 99
