Boss GT-1B discussion thread

When you make the GT into a stomp, assign a knob to switch patches. You can make different sets of stomps. You can only add one foot switch. I’d assign your FS6 to delay and reverb and then you have up and down, CTL1 for more effects. By default you have a volume pedal you can assign a bass wah or pitch shifter. This thing is fken awesome, and yes the tuner sucks. I also noticed the chain works best with PDL, OD, FX1, FX2, Reverb, Delay, Preamp, NS, master, but your mileage may vary.

I'm trying to mimmick the DG metal tone. Supposedly you can get awfully close wit the Boss OBD pedal. Now that I've added the MXR stuff I think I can get it.

You should play with what you got for a minute, then sort out what you need. Select a preamp on you GT of your desire. I’m using the 360 preamp settings which emulates acoustic bass 360. Is that the mark bass Marcus Miller 3x10 you’re using?

Yes it is the 3x10. I like the 360 and the session emulators most. my goal is to set up the GT so I can stomp what I want and not have to touch anything on the amp except the ultra low knob.

Ok. So for now I like this set up best for me.
Bass->GT1B->M80->M87.

For metal tones in bypassing the GT1B for the M80 and M87 to utilize the noise gate and compression in conjunction with the knobs on my bass. Obviously bypassing means I have always on tuner going through the gt1b in this set up. I like the compressor at the end just to polish things up. I feel I was able to adjust the settings so it defined the notes better with and without dirt. I like the compressor as an always on and I don't want to have to make huge adjustments, prefer set it and forget it.

Clean tones I'll run the 360 preamp from the gt1b along with the clean EQ on the M80 and light compression from the M87 again just to polish up the last bit before it hits my amp.

For deep vintage tones I'll use my amp settings and the "old school" knob, generally if I'm playing a song in this style there's no switching tones if any i would roll from neck to bridge pickups for a little solo or jazzy part.

Current button assignments are
Down FX1 I have chorus
Up FX2 is Flanger
CTL1 OD won't use this much as the M80 has it handled
Hard Press Expression Pedal to activate the Preamp
A button is for Bypass/Tuner
B button is nothing as I goofed and didn't buy a TRS patch cable so I can use both. That will be corrected asap and I'll most likely use it for a delay
:::EDIT::: I realized I could use another cable and connect the B button to my amp to activate my EQ 2. which is perfect as that is where I would need to adjust my amp for old school vintage tones. Now I can set that where I want and stomp to pull it up.

So, for a budget set up you aready win at 200 new for the GT1B. 100-120 for the M87 used. 130 for the M80 DI new, which is also a ton of bang for your buck and 40-50 bucks on a foot switch has brought 9 buttons to stomp in a pretty small area. Only thing I'm going to add is a TC Polytune 3 which will free up another stomp for something else.

$400-$500 for more than I'll need, vs thousands to get the same stuff? Now for the thousands extra is the sound going to be better? Probably in some ways. In any way that an audience will notice? I kinda doubt it.

Thanks for sharing this. I'll mess with it myself!
