Boss Limiter Enhancer

Would anyone recommend this pedal for getting smooth, stable sounding bass lines?

Does is suck tone out of an expensive rig?

Is there another pedal that does the job better?

Or are stable sounding bass lines simply a matter of good playing technique, and using compression or whatever is really just a crutch for bad form?

Opinions? :hyper:

Compressors are tools and they can be used appropriately or mis-used just like any tool. It is maybe possible to use a compressor as a crutch, but there are many creative tonal or utility purposes for a compressor that are not crutch-like at all.

I like the combination of good technique and a compressor. ;)

+1 to that!!!

i had the boss limiter enhancer before. it makes an audible "pop" or "click" each time the limiting threshold is crossed. now i use a demeter compulator, very quiet and subtle. you won't notice it when it's working, but turn it off and you'll hear the difference.

Don't buy the lmb-3, it's rubbish, I returned one the day after I got it. It limits volume spikes, although it doesn't even do that tbh.

I'm not a huge fan of Boss pedals...but I disagree with you here. I don't think this pedal is "rubbish", in fact I thought (for the money), it was a nice little box...

If you are getting a lot of noise from it, it's probably from the enhance knob...turn this knob all the way off...don't use it, and see if that improves your opinion of this pedal...

I don't use this pedal anymore...but after figuring out not to use the enhance knob, I thought it was OK...

+1 - This is not as crappy a pedal as people make it out to be. "It limits volume spikes" - well that's what its supposed to do. Its a limiter. That's what I use it for, and I find it to be decent at that job. And I hear no audible click or pop when I hit the threshold at all.

Yep, it's a good, effective device, especially for its price point. It's not going to outperform much more expensive devices, and the "enhance" knob is actually a "suck" knob; but if you leave the enhance dialed off the limiting function is just fine. Not rubbish at all if you have the right expectations.
