Boss OC-2 club...

I didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I would call on the club to help me on this one.

I really really really love the sound of this pedal with a completely wet signal. OCT 1 all the way up...OCT 2 all the way down and the dry signal (Level) all the way off. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of volume drop off. I can make up for that drop off by mixing the clean tone...but but that tone leaks through to the point that I'm dissatisfied. I could live with it, but I'd love to get that completely wet synthy tone.

I'm thinking of getting a bypass loop for all my effects and was thinking of putting a boost pedal in a loop with the OC-2. The boost pedal would just be to even out the volume loss when the OC-2 is disengaged. Basically a volume knob for the OC-2. Probably an EHX LPB-1

~Does the OC-2 play nicely with a bypass loop?

~Any fault to my logic?

~Any alternatives to my logic?

-I'm sure there is but you're thinking is the same as mine. I've got mine in a bypass loop and have been thinking about getting a small boost pedal to use with it....although, maybe something with a touch of dirt would be better. The sound of the OC-2 set as you've described loves having just a touch of dirt after it to really bring it out in a mix. I got that from Steve Jenkins and it really works.

HMM...Thanks for the tip. I have a Boss SD-2 dual overdrive. The "Crunch" channel I use for just a touch of dirt and the "Lead" is for stronger distortion....I also have a Fuzz pedal coming in. I want to keep the SD-2 in it's own loop though; so a clean boost it may still have to be.

has anyone figured out a way to sustain notes with this pedal without it glitching?

i'm using it for doom/sludge oriented lines and trying to hold notes for as long as possible. i've got a guyatone BL-2 limiter in front of the pedal with the volume up pretty high and the threshold at noon. should it go after the pedal or before?

I think the best you can hope for is limiting the causes of the glitch. I found that putting a piece of medium density foam under the strings by the bridge helps keep strings from inadvertently vibrating. Experiment and find the right material that strikes a happy medium between not killing your sustain and muting those strings.

Proper technique helps as well. The OC-2 is monophonic and glitches whenever there is more than one clean, well executed note going into it. Deadspots and poor setups seem to glitch the OC-2 as well.

Neither really. Putting it before will aid in tracking but neither position will really enhance sustain IMO. If the OC-2 decayed in a normal way (volume decreasing as it fades) then after would increase the sustain. But because it glitches out, sustaining it won't help.

But I'd try putting it before and seeing if it helps. My guess is it will help but not to the extent that you want it to.

thanks for the insight. Any suggestion on use of compression/limiter settings before or after?

same problem: i solved it putting in a hint of my xotic bass booster

yes...not exactly your cheapest solution but..it's already in my pedalboard so..

I'm actually using it with a bit of Overdrive (Boss SD-2) behind it. I use it to get the volume boost I need and it gives me that bit of sawtooth sound. I'm not sure if that's the right moniker, but it's OD after Octave. Like you it's what I had on my pedal board already.

That said I still want to get a clean boost and a loop or line selector, to cut back on the tap dancing.

OC-2 rocks! Big time!
Few days ago I ordered both the Aguilar Octamizer and a Taiwan Boss OC-2. Both were used but in great shape, (the Aguilar came from an awesome fellow TBer) and while I dug the aguilar's tweak-ability and options for shaping both the clean tone and that of the octave, the tone of the OC-2 is just plain awesome, I LOVE that filthy synth fatness this pedal produces!
Still assigning numbers? If so I'd like to get one :)
