The fizz you are having is probably the square-wave "bleeding" through. I don't have this problem when the pedal is bypassed, but when it's on in "stock mode" i can hear the square-wave faintly.
I'm not entirely sure about why, but have a good theory:
-The square-wave signal has a great amplitude and is changing with a very sharp "edge" (meaning high treble content).
-Wires close to each other work as a capacitor.
-Capacitors block DC but allows AC through to some degree.
What happens is that the signal "bleeds" either through the switch or perhaps the OCT1 square-wave wire is close to the output wire.
(It's kind of like biking, when a truck overtakes you - even though you don't touch the truck, you feel it.)
Solutions:
-Move the wires around, note that this could make it worse.
-Add some filtering to the square-wave might help (this is like slowing the truck down)
-Attenuating the square-wave might help (this is like making the truck smaller, but at high speed you'll feel it still.)
-Different approach to adding the square-wave: The ring modulator ("volume follower") can be modified in a different way so the square-wave gets mixed in, without feeding the Flip-flop output directly into the signal path.
Now for my progress with the gating circuit:
I solved some of the problems; it's quite stable now, but doesn't turn the volume all the way down when gating and still fizzes a bit. Both problems can be solved, but not with the limited space inside the OC-2. I do however like the that it gates the clean sound as well, might make it into a standalone stompbox at some point.
I'll try to make the fizz from the square-wave disappear on my OC-2 an post back, if i find a solution.
