To be honest, I don't think people know how to use certain pedals. A bass synth, in particular. They plug in, play what they would normally play, turn some knobs that they don't understand, and come to the conclusion that the pedal sucks.
I figure I'd put that out there. It erks me. Even these companies demos of products aren't a good glimpse at what you can really do with their products. Like the EHX Bass Micro Synth, for example. The video demo was a complete turn-off. That's not to say that the synth can't do some rad and usefull(subjective) things.
I think it all comes down to trying the pedal/effect in a store.
So to conclude, after trying it out in Atlanta, I bought the SYB-5 and am looking forward to taking it to the shed to see what crazy sonic concoctions I can achieve.
