Ran across this thread.
I'm a Gear Pager as well as a Talk Basser (Bipolar

). I was a member of Talk Bass way back in the begining, got tired and left, came back, left again for a number of years and here I is again.

First off let me start by saying I have played guitar and bass for 35+ years. While I have a good deal of experience, mostly that just makes me old and fat.
I have used a number of Boss Pedals through the years and I owe Boss a debt for those pedals. I do not want to trash Boss at all. There are however many pedals out there that are far superior these days.
In the last year I have taken up playing Upright Bass and for some reason my handy ol TU-2 does not like it. I have a very nice Bass and use a Realist pickup into an Fdeck Pre then into my Tuner. For what ever reason my TU-2 gets confused by the UB and tracks very slow. Now that being said it has been around the block. Perhaps it has seen better days.
I have used the Peterson, the Turbo Tuner, the TU-2, and the Pitch Black. So far for me I prefer the Pitch Black. I do not like the Peterson at all. The Turbo is great but on really bright days I can not see it. Not sure if I could tell the difference between 1 cent, .1 cent, and .02 cent but I sure can tell a big difference in how much better the Pitch Black works over the TU-2.
Also for some reason with my UB the TU-2 seems to be a tone sucker when not being used. I do not notice this with EB but it is a mjor problem with my UB.
All that being said I have not tried the TU-3.
For buffers, there are many tiny buffer units out there that are far better.
Compare a Fulltone OCD to any Boss overdrive. Night and day IMO.
