what are sum boutique bass specific 1x8" combos that are good for you know what?
any price, it doesnt matter. all i know is my little amp gas meter says it's time to buy or build. the rarest and most meticulously built will be my hope for the amazing info to follow... in other words; GO!

i guess i already know about the 1x8"s you can get from the big box stores, im kinda interested if there is anythin being 'custom' done in 1x8" BASS combo land (???) _dash

Not exactly boutique, but gets no mention, here on TB. If you are looking for vintage tone, this little combo comes close to Aguilar's Tone Hammer. ... and loud.

I have never seen or heard one but the obvious answer is a "crazy 8".....do a search on it!!!

There was a GB Shuttle 3.0 in an 8"

And IME it was the best micro combo ever, by a wide margin, and still occasionally available used......the most power on tap and the ability to pop out the 300 watt, full featured head for use with other cabs if desired. I have the Shuttle 3-10T combo....13 lbs, also with the easily/quickly removed 300 watt Shuttle 3.0 head, and it's the most versatile piece I own. Unlike my Phil Jones Cub (FS) and Double 4, the GB actually can project lows under 100 Hz with some authority. It also has a bottom-mounted kickstand to angle it up towards my ears, and if I put it on top of a larger cab, it will hang with a drummer at a reasonable volume. I could easily gig with it on a 210 or even 112 cab. It astonishes me that this format (removable micro head on top of ultra light, small, 8 Ohm cab) is not all the rage. Most of the other companies' offerings (TC, GK, Markbass) have not engineered a way to easily remove the heads from their small combos, even those that are pricey, like Markbass. I suspect they are concerned that sales of the micro heads alone will be cannibalized.

The "Crazies" are ex-tree nice . But one of these is what you want (although not 8 boxes). Take just 1 (2's not necessary), but you needn't call me in the A.M.

1x8 and cost no object. 1x8 is a random choice. Assume you are interested in a rig that is compact, light weight and with top quality construction. We have no 'use' objectives: bedroom practice, moderate size rehearsal, loud drummer? What do you want to use it for? Do you just WANT the best possible 1x8, with no intention of using it? If your intention is to use it, then we can provide useful recommendations IF you provide performance goals. What are your tone preferences? How loud does it need to get and in what size space. Any other players? Loud drummer? Marshall full stack? Available space (maximum foot print). Maximum weight.

If the compact and light weight objectives are combined with top performance and quality then consider: AudioKinesis Hathor 1203 cab (Hathor 1203 and a Demeter VTBP-M-800D head VTBP-M-800D Same footprint as the Ampeg BA108 (and about 2 inches taller), and only about 8 lbs heavier. Top quality, superb and versatile tone, compact, light weight. Cost no object, but still a good, cost effective deal.

A Crazy8 with an Monique 700 duct taped to it is the closest I can think of to a Boutique 1x8 combo.

im needing this for recording. sticking either a SM57 or EVre20 in front of (is it an) it(?)... the purchase, or build, will satisfy my needs, and will help add to my sonic palette, which will equate to more choices, which, in turn, results in greater freedom in studio situations, for me. i like freedom. ymmv

Instead of a 8in, if money, time, age etc is no question, why not look at some Phil Jones stuff using 5in drivers?

PJB gear is nice, & fit/finish are tip-top-notch for sure, but bang-for-the-buck, it simply pales.

The Markbass is nice but expensive especially if you compare it to their own 1x12. I had one for awhile but ended up selling partly because of size and partly because of limited EQ ability. It has VPF but no VLE and no standard tone controls. I might have kept it if it had VLE.

I had a Genz Benz 1x10 for awhile too. I ended up trading that one and the 1x8 for another 1x12 combo.

i thought those little marks were pretty cool, but $500 for an 8" cube is a little steep for what you get
