Brass vs Stainless pickguard screws?

I have two Fender RB5's. One is metallic gold, the other is metallic blue. The gold one has a brighter tone than the blue one, even when both are freshly strung with identical string sets.

Coincidence? I think not!!! The only differences between these two basses is the color of the paint. Therefore, color affects tone!

That's just your tone being coloured, too much paint!!! Time for a relic job.
 
He doesn't know what he's talking about. The units of torque are not Lbs, they are ft-lbs aka lb-ft. And 7 to 10 ft-lbs would be WAY too low for pickguard screws. They should always be torqued between 85 and 95 ft-lbs.

DUH!

(Disclaimer - don't try this at home. Torquing this severe should only be performed by a real loothier or someone else with real strong forearms, like Popeye.)

You are correct sir! My bad, it's been so long since i used my gold coted mini torque wrench that i had forgoten. Which reminds me, i better go and get my bass out of the bathtub as it may pop out my pickguard srews.
 
That dried blood idea sounds interesting (albeit gross and next to impossible to pull off), but the Iron content in the blood coupled with its innate transitive quality should facilitate tone transfer pretty well. But here's a thought. Why not use a WOOD pickguard mounted using slots and wood glue. This way, there's not discrepancy in material density from body to pickguard.

Just an idea :D
