Brian Bromberg Carvin Model Part 2

So, I now have to decide if I want to keep the hum-bucker/Icon system in my to-be-finished fretless or call them back and switch to the single coil/Bromberg system.

If you solo pickups, then you might really consider keeping the humbuckers to eliminate hum.

Don't get me wrong here everybody. I am very happy with my B25P. It plays and sounds great. I am just surprised at all these turns of event regarding the humbuckers/Icon preamp.

I thought I was buying a Single coil w/the Bromberg Pre from the Hollywood store. That's why I bought it. I am just surprised that the Carvin personnel seemed to be un-informed regarding the electronics in the bass on the wall, and the fact that the Icon pre apparently comes with the humbuckers. I do, however, think that Carvin needs to clarify the preamp situation re: SC vs. HB.

On fretless, I definitely favor the bridge pickup but I normally don't "solo" the bridge pickup.
Unless Mr. Bromberg or other users have any other input, I'm probably going to switch to the single coil/Bromberg pre system.

Keep in mind that Carvin will likely charge you a ~$50 fee for a change to an order already underway. You might want to argue that fee given the circumstances...

Ya know, I've been playing the B25PHi (now with humbuckers and Icon module!) all night. Geez I dig that thing. Despite feeling a little under-informed by the Hollywood store, I just really love the tone, playability and B-string on this bass. Maybe the humbuckers are why I've kept the B25 while having bought and sold off 2 SB5000s during that same time period. Either way, it's still a keeper!

Yup. They called to verify the balance I owed on the bass, get my payment info and confirm the shipping address.

I called them back a couple hours later to ask a couple questions on shipping and they informed me that the bass shipped out today.

Ok, I understand, now.

BTW, these BriBrom basses are BADA$$. I'm coming upon 1 year with mine. For me, it's the closest to a "perfect" bass out of all my basses. It has everything....the feel, the sound, the look. I couldn't ask for anything more...well, I'd like block inlays on maple board, but that's another story. ;)

Awesome Matt, can't wait to see how you like it!!

Other than the fact that it has 1) the wrong pickups 2) the wrong pre-amp 3) the "push/pull" active/passive master volume 4) the loose/noisy output jack and 5) reverse/improper wiring of the pickup pan pot, I guess it's nice.

This bass doesn't sound or function anything like the demos that Mr. Bromberg has done. There is a significant drop off in treble when the volume is even slightly reduced, the pick-ups are very low out put and the tone is somewhat muted. I'm significantly disappointed. I thought the problems with the pick-ups and pre-amps were resolved a LONG time ago.

Obviously, this is getting sent back. I'm going to have a word with them on the phone and see if we can resolve this quickly and efficiently.

 Well, I guess I'm not too surprised...but once you get it resolved, they're fantastic. Sorry to hear about the issues...damn.

Looks like they put the humbuckers/Icon module in it. When I got mine back from San Diego after my adventures with the preamp, my blend pot was also wired backwards.

Someone is clearly asleep at the switch in the Carvin QC department.
