Brian Bromberg Carvin Model Part 2

DSC02837.jpg

Wow! One piece top? Sounds like an expensive option 50...

My main axe is a B24S; love it! I plan to order a 2nd 4-string Carvin set up with flat-wound strings. This bass will be my “old school” bass. The logical choice would be either a SB4000 or B40 with flats. However I have to say, I’ve fallen in love with the neck on my B24S and have toyed with the idea of ordering a second B24S with flats and basically living the EQ flat.

Question, any of you have a B24 and either own or have tried out a SB4000? How much more radically chucky is the SB compared to the B24? I know the B40 neck is supposed to be thinner than the SB so I’m keeping that model in mind as well. Then again, maybe a bass with a slightly different feel might be a good thing.

Feedback anyone?

I liked the tone of flats on my B25 w/humbuckers more than I likedthe tone of flats on my SB5000 w/sigle coils.

And the neck on the B25 is my absolute favorite profile ever (sorry, no 34 stringers to compare...).

After playing the B24 neck, nothing else feels as comfortable. Not sure if I want to go anywhere else but the B24 right now.

BTW, if you can stand the weight, my new all maple bodied B24...wow. Sonically, a whole different beast. And I mean, beast.

Interesting. My B24S has humbuckers but I was going to go single coil for whatever I get next. And you say you prefer the tone of flats on the B25 over the SB5000? Strange, I would think flats on an SB would be an ideal match. As for the neck, the SB5000 and SB4000 necks are two different animals. Still, I appreciate the feedback.

That's what I was thinking. The B24 has spoiled me and anything else I take on won't feel right! Damn you, Bromberg!!! ;)

As for your all maple "beast," that's okay, I think I'll stick with back friendly alder. My current B24S is black with a birdseye maple board. The new bass will be white with ebony board. I say if you can't see the wood, then it might as well be reliable alder!
