You can sand/grind the bottoms of each bridge saddle...that'll make it go lower. Or call Hipshot, maybe they can just make you a custom set of thinner saddles.
UncleJane, the easiest fix is what funkInTheTrunk said by grinding down the saddles. I know Carvin has done it because they have done it on my basses! In fact call them and tell them to do it before they ship the bass to you, I'm sure they will. That is one thing about a bolt on that's cool is that you can change neck angles and take care of geometry like that. But it can be dealt with on neck through basses with not to much of an issue, then you are set!
Ok, thanks Brian. Yeah after researching yesterday and today what an epoxy job is going to require...... Er, you and Trunk are definitely right
Ooohh...now that Brian chimed in, it's a good idea.![]()
Hmm... now I think this might give a B26 a slight edge in terms of design and prototyping effort. Couldn't Carvin's existing six-string neck just be put into the B2 body? The RAD-J pickups are wide enough for Carvin's existing six-strings, so they'd be fine. All that would need to be made from scratch (sort of) is a 6-string version of the headstock. Even if there were to be greater demand for the bolt-on versions, a B26 seems easy enough to be worthwhile anyway.
I'm very intrigued by the B25! The design really appeals to my tastes. Also, it really inspires confidence when B2 himself often replies to these threads. Since I haven't had the opportunity to try one of these bad boys in person, can someone help me compare the neck thickness to a Lakland 55-02/01 that I'm very familiar with? I love the profile on those necks and if the B25 is similar in thickness/profile, I may very well pull the trigger on one.
I called Carvin to ask, and the person on my phone said he is "pretty sure" the profile and dimensions are the same as those listed on the website under the replacement 5-string, neck-through bass necks.
1st fret: 0.80"
12th fret: 0.97"
However, he said he can't be 100% certain. Any help on this subject would be extremely appreciated!
Yeah, I love my Lakland P-bass, but if Carvin ever puts out a PJ, I would order one in a second.
Re: Lakland necks, I played only Lakland 5 stringers for several years. Then I bought an SB500, followed a B25. Then I sold all my Laklands. Then my SB. I still have the B25. Don't get me wrong. Laklands are great basses, but these 34" scale Carvin basses are easier for me to play, and I don't feel as if I've sacrificed anything going to the shorter scale.
Why not order an SB bass and have a P pickup installed?
Keep both pick guards and you have a universal route under there to do what ever you want.
Personally I don't see the point of making the B2 bass with a pj or standard jj setup.
That's the point of the B2- to NOT be like that.
Some good points have been made on the matter and here's my 2 cents. I think Carvin will eventually offer a P pickup option.
