Brian Cook (Russian Circles, TAAS, Botch)

I think he mainly used it for looping bass parts from their earlier stuff. I know that's what their first bass player did.
Anyone have any idea on the settings on his Big Muff? I couldn't get a usable tone outta mine. No definition, lost almost all of the low end. Is that it on TAAS's Subtle Body around the 1:20 mark? Gnarly.

Haha this is the FIRST thing i played when i got home with my first loop pedal.
I dunno if he used the Akai(s) then, but it's my favorite example of Brian's looping.
I don't remember him using them (doesn't he use TWO e1's?) when i saw TAAS. But i only saw them when all they had was their EP... but he did use them when i saw Russian Circles last winter... but i'm not familliar enough with their catalogue to provide examples...

curious note, cook was rocking a verellen meatsmoke head and it sounded great! as botch's bassist, it makes sense, it was just the first time i saw him with something other than a svt4. he was also back to the gibson ripper over the first act.
i was checking out mike sullivan's guitar setup, and here's what i suspect... he runs one sunn head into the 412 as his main guitar sound. i think he uses the other sunn head into the 212 (under the 412) and the 412 on cook's side of the stage exclusively for headrush loops.

New Russian Circles album is out soon. Sounds so heavy and sick! Haven't checked in a ton lately to see what he's using these days. But i know he did make a shout out to TB's own Fuzzrocious as being one of his new favorite toys.... wonder if it made it onto the album.

Empros is f*cking relentless. the bass tone is mean and dirty, heavier album than Geneva... I feel its an easier listen aswell in terms of tracklisting of the album as a whole. **SPOILER** theres some brian vocals to which is cool.

New album is pretty amazing, didn't expect it to be so heavy... what a great band.
Seeing them recreate live the sounds of the records, with all the loops and effects, is an experience.
Cook may not be a flashy bassist but he surely is an interesting musician... nasty tone, too!

imo u dont need to be flashy to be good. just play what u like, and do it well. a good tone helps hahaha . never be satisfied, always try to be better. PRACTICE.

Let's talk about Russian Circles' set last night at the Electric Factory in Philly, opening for Coheed & Cambria with Between the Buried and Me. Let's talk about how I only bought tickets to this show because of RC and how we both got the smelly end of the stick when their amazing set was limited to under 30 minute, while BTBAM got to go on for well over an hour.
On a more positive note, Brian's tone was surprisingly even more monstrous than ever, and his dirty stuff thundered through with far more clarity than the previous times I've seen them. I don't know if it was the venue's setup or if I should attribute it to switching from the OCD and Turbo Rat to the OSD and Rat Tail. I also never notice before how much he utilizes his octaver as a big part of his distorted sound.

Not exactly. He just did the session bass. He played on a Mammifer album too.
EDIT: it appears he will be a sometimes live participant. That's groovy.
I saw RC with BC in Wellington, NZ, maybe a couple years back and for one of the songs he had what looked like a Roland Sp-404 sampler on a table that he was playing with his pinky on his fretting hand, while playing bass. Haha. Thought 'there's GOT to be an easier way of doing that' but it looked pretty cool.
