brian moore?

The Brian Moore 'brand' is closed. The company that made them is coming back under the name 'iGuitar'. There's a lot of engineering involved so they aren't sure what month they'll be ready. There will be basses as well...This was told to me by the company about 8 months ago.

Yeah the custom shop is closed but they will be doing imports still. It's a shame, their US instruments are amazing. One of the guitar players in my band has a 7 string, and the other guitar player has had two of their 6 strings.

Four years have passed. Things have indeed changed. Time for an update...

The new Brian Moore company is now set up in La Grange, NY - a small village on the Hudson, just about an hour's drive north of New York City. And guess what? They do indeed have a full range of bass guitars. Check 'em out:

FYI, about 12 years ago I played a Brian Moore five-string bass guitar at Manny's Music in New York (now Sam Ash) - and I was impressed. A very comfortable, compact form factor for a five-string bass - with a relatively tight and musical "B" string, and some rather sophisticated electronics. Nice tone, great feel. Win, win, win. This was the first five-string I ever played that didn't feel overly bulky, and didn't have a sloppy "B" string; the first five-string that convinced me that a five-string could actually be in my future. :hmm:

While I haven't (yet) invested in a Brian Moore bass guitar, last year I did purchase a previously-owned 2003 Brian Moore i1P:13 (Korean-made) guitar in like-new condition. This is BM's top-o-the-line guitar, with RMC piezo output and 13-pin MIDI output, in addition to the standard quarter-inch TRS phone jack output. After I received it from my eBay seller, I sent it straight up to La Grange (uh haw haw haw haw :smug:) for the USB upgrade for an extra $200. So now I've got like, the ultimate studio guitar. She's truly a keeper.

FYI, now that Brian Moore has relocated production from South Korea back to the US, it looks like prices are going to be more commensurate with the quality of these fine instruments from now on - no more incredible discounts due to foreign manufacture. As far as I know, Brian Moore has no dealer network - at least not yet. If you want an instrument, you have to purchase direct from the factory - where they quote full MSRP. Don't know the extent to which they'll negotiate on price - I haven't tried... :hmm:

I was at Manny's for the after hours introduction of the Brian Moore line when they had just picked it up. There was a company honcho there that gave a complete demonstration of their top-of-the-line guitar with piezo, Midi etc etc. Beautiful instruments. There was also a band afterwards playing their gear. I talked with the bass player when they were done and he let me check out the bass - I liked it a lot. Great feel and balance, and it sounded excellent with the SD's. Of course, the MIA version (no imports yet) meant real money that I didn't have so I had to pass, but I always kept them on my bass bucket list.

I've only seen ever one of the MIA basses on ebay since then, just a few months ago, and it had a $1200 BIN - I would've hit it in a second if I hadn't just got something else - Rats!!!!

I've heard mostly good things about the Korean versions, some lemons, but generally a lot of happy people. As a result the used price on them has been creeping up. I'm still thinking about getting one at some point. They were a great deal at $600 - now I see them at $1K and I'm not sure I'll go there.

My guitar player recently acquired an MIA CS i2000 i1P. It is one beautiful guitar and he loves it. I think at the boutique level these hold their own admirably. He got it off ebay so the price made it a great value. He had also sent it back to the shop to be restored to it's original version (the previous owner put different pickups in it and changed the wiring). It really sounds amazing now and the piezo is one of the smoothest I've heard.

BTW, I was in Manny's this week and they do have some Brian Moore guitars on display, ready to sell. But you're right, most are only available through the website. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a bass anywhere to try out. I don't know what they're getting for them but based on where the guitars are they're probably made to order. My guess= $3K +/-.

I had an I4 in a quilted top cherry burst. The thing was a beauty and played great. Bought it back around 2000-2001 iirc. It was a stunning deal on a cost/value scale. Wish it was still around. These aren't mine but they are very similar..(mine was quilted not flamed).
