Sort of off-topic, but feel this is probably an appropriate thread...

I miss the last few years while the Canadian dollar was around par with USD. I hadn't bought so many instruments in my life as I did within the last 3-4 years. Come to think of it, that is probably the reason I had a renewed interest in music again after a long absence from the music scene.

For most of these purchases, they were ordered into a parcel center just inside the US border. I properly declared and was only required to pay the appropriate GST on the instrument. (One time they let me go, which was nice.)

Before the par dollar, I had 5 instruments. Within the last few years, I was able to purchase:

• Conklin BDGT-7 used, via private Craigslist sale.
• F BN6 (Yes, I ordered directly within Canada, but most of the hardware, etc. purchased by their factory are from US companies, so the same instrument would probably cost me more to order today.)
• Ken Smith KSD Burner Deluxe 6 B-Stock from zZounds.
• Warwick-Rockbass Alien Deluxe 6 from Bass Alien.
• De Armond Ashbory from Large Sound.
• Goldfish Guitars' Bassfish from the Goldfish website.
• Kala U-Bass SUB Solidbody B-Stock, winning an eBay auction.

Even 2 new guitars:

• Gibson Les Paul Studio from Sweetwater.
• Gibson Flying V from Sam Ash.

I'm from the Seattle/Tacoma area, but I played a lot in the Van/Vic market through the 1970s and early 1980s. Got to open for Ike and Tina at the old Oil Can Harry's in its heyday-- four different stages in that place, all playing different milieus-- and played the Brown Jug in Victoria a lot, met a girl I very nearly married there, played New West and Lionsgate and Haney, and then got sent to Prince Rupert and Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and many many other places-- got as far north as Prudhoe during the pipeline construction. A totally extraordinary time to be alive . . .

ETA: Don't believe I should have a number here, since I'm a Yank and all, but we send you our love and greatest respect. And oh yeah-- go Canucks! Can't wait to see the new team at work--
