British Columbia Canada Club

I resisted joining facebook until recently and while I still have almost no use for it I gotta say the Vancouver Bass Player's Group is really good and the heart of the Vancouver bass community in any online sense. A Talkbass GTG posted there will be probably be much better attended. Not sure how many people showed for their last one...you could click on the thumb and do a head count....

I'd rather have it planned here.

Planning it on Fecalbook is bad because:

A) It makes this thread inactive; o_O
B) This is a TB BC Club GTG after all, not a Vancouver Bass Player's Group GTG;
C) I don't do Fecalbook. :vomit:

I don't see how a TB gathering would get organised any quicker outside of TB.
Nonetheless, I'm all for including the Vancouver Bass Player's Group in the TB GTG — the more the merrier. Maybe get some more of them to join TB!

While I do agree with you, I believe the realities of the situation demonstrate that there probably are many more members of the FB club than have participated in this thread. It is also proving difficult to get any kind of GTG organized from here.

My own experience has shown me that participation in fora declines when a similar FB group is available. When in Rome...

Interesting photo from the Vancouver FB group. I thought it was Fender ad. I'd love to add something different to that.

Well we seem to have a date set...27/28th of December.

Is anyone good with that for now unless something comes up as the date approaches? Me and original suggester have confirmed yes...for now, but no one else

My difficulty in committing to 27/28 December is that it is so far away, smack in the middle of holiday season, and there is no way to predict what the weather will be like at that time. I understand that no one here knows me and it probably won't make much a difference in anyone's day whether I make it or not, but, still, I'd like to be there and see how it goes.

So, dear fellow forum members, please take my posts as a gentle prodding to not wait too long, and not as a complaint.

End of Dec is a long ways away in my world but I'm in provisionally. I might have an excellent space about three blocks from the Main St skytrain station and just around the corner from L&M. It's a scenic construction shop that's in major renovation right now but that should be done in Dec. I will make inquiries.

And just to be 100% clear no one is talking about any organization of this coming from the facebook group. LM Bass was just showing some brotherly support saying he'd post a notice on the page letting people there know it was happening. Once we get a firm date and location if he doesn't make that post I will.

JB, DB is a good investment! Movie re-shoot sounds fun. I used to sweep up after the set carpenters at Bridge Studios as well as out in Maple Ridge in ye ol' Western town. Look ma, I'm in the movies!

I hope this GTG works out well for everybody and my travel plans don't get messed up so I can attend!
Either way, I'll post here when I'm next running through the area – a simple coffee sounds great. 2am here, time to shut down. Cheers my BC brethren and sistren.

We're a 100% go to do a GTG at the new Great Northern Way Scene Shop location. Like I said though they're in a major reno so it probably won't be available until at least Nov maybe not 'til Dec/Jan. It's a huge space with ground level roller doors, a central location and it's a main hub of the BC performing arts community....we couldn't do much better.

How's the gigging scene?

You are likely to get different answers on that. I'd have to say it's "meh". Not a lot of pubs and bars interested in having bands. Everything turns from a pub/restaurant to a nightclub at 9:00pm. Grand if you love dancing.

That said, there are some very dedicated places to play live, like the Railway Club, the Rickshaw, Pat's Pub, the Astoria.

It's medium.

Anyone reading this, I'll be going to see DAGRS at the Railway this Friday night if you want to hang out.
