I drove to Coquitlam to jam with a few guys once. Nothing became of it though.

...and here I am thinking that I was the only one putting Vancouver as my location when I actually live further east (Pitt Meadows).
I'd be up for a coffee meetup if any of you can set aside the time. We seem to be spread out a bit so my humble suggestion would be for a meetup in either Burnaby or Coquitlam.

Lots of coffee shops in Coquitlam and Burnaby! I can think of a few that are not Timmy's or Starbucks.

Yes, please! I neglected to mention that it would be good to avoid that big chain with the green mermaid (I do enjoy some of their baked goods though). I've never been to either of the places mentioned by jazzonlyjazz, but I'll trust the suggestions.
Had there been a big infestation of bassists in the Hope area, I would suggest Blue Moose.
Creekside was where one of my friends used to work and it's a small nice quiet place privately owned by a Korean owner (I think) who doesn't treat his employees like crap and actually treats them like human beings (GASP).
That sounds to me like a good place. Even if no one wants to meet up, I'll still try to stop in there next time I'm in the area.

I am in Victoria. Are there any bass specialty stores in Van these days, or just the same old TL and L&M?

Every now & then, I drive down to Seattle with my wife and I'll drop in Bass Northwest and Emerald City Guitars for a bit.
Oh, Bellingham has a Guitar Center now, in that strip mall which includes Ross.
The sales manager told me they could bring in anything from the GC Used Section for me. Of course, he said I could test it first to make sure it was good.
A few mom and pop shops too here but not a lot of them carry big names like Fender or Gibson. I think there's on Commercial drive that makes their own guitars and is doing well despite their guitars being in the same price range as any CS model...
I've been taking my guitars to Chris at Basone for maintenance. He builds guitars and they are stellar, but pricey. Nice guy. Expert luthier.
Cool.....good to know. I have bought a couple basses from Bass NW. I am in the market for a new amp and cab or 2 and just went in to L&M in Victoria....what a horrendous selection. I wan't to try an Aguilar DB751 and they can't bring in any Aguilar. In fact Aguilar does not even have a single retailer in BC or western Canada! ***??
I lived a few blocks from Edmonds station for two months. First month was because a friend suggested we move in together so I found us a place, but he found a job in Squamish and I couldn't afford the rent on my own, so I gave my 1-month notice and had to live out the second month. No offense to you Edmonds-dwellers, but it was not a good place for me at that time in my life.
When was it NOT considered weird?
I met up with "Bass" (best TB name ever) one time in Spruce Grove (though he's from Regina, he was visiting relatives and I was visiting my folks in St. Albert). It was fun, we chatted about all sorts of stuff, not just bass and he gave me some stickers from his band. I've met a few TBer people here in person as well. In general, I'd say it's good to meet people in person if you've already established a rapport online.
Aguilar's loss, not yours!
Would a GTG in the lull between just after the Christmas rush and before NYE make sense?

There's really not a lot of selection on the west coats of Canada. We get whatever L+M or TL has available. In the 90's there was a rad guitar store in Kelowna run by a guy named Kurt. I don't know if it's there still. That shop had everything!
Yes, the selection here in Victoria is terrible. L&M has dropped most of the "interesting" stuff & now pretty much sells Yorkville/Traynor and ampeg. Their selection of basses has receded dramatically too. There is nowhere in Victoria anymore to buy a high-end bass, or anything different in terms of amplification. It's really sad.
Yes, I've heard many people mention those Edmonds Station-area apartments are extremely expensive. At the very least, the Edmonds area really has developed nicely over the past few years. I remember the horrid Middlegate Mall (now a completely redesigned High Gate.) My home is closer to Kingsway, a few streets on the Burnaby side from New West. My area cleaned up considerably. There used to be a lot of "bad element" in the neighborhood. Maybe 4 years ago, I started noticing families moving in and going for walks at night. (That definitely would not have happened years earlier.)
