Oh wow, I need to update my profile. I had that a long time ago. Since then, I've had a few epifani amps, a number of Markbass amps, glockenklang heart rock, Mesa 400+, the list is long!

But to answer your question - I really liked it, but at the time I had a Schroeder 410 cab that had a very strong midrange resonance to it, and the DB750 exacerbated the problem.. .I ended up with a hoover vacuum cleaner sound. that being said, I really liked the DB. It was definitely heavy though. It would have been matched much better with another cab.

Many years ago, there were more options for us. There was a cool consignment store Not Just Another Music Store (NJAMS). National Music was still open when I moved to Vancouver. (I actually attended an Alain Caron clinic there.)

The music scene in Victoria was happening then. We had Harpo's, and the Meatlockers jam spaces, and a lot of selection in retail for musical instruments.

Now the music scene here is pretty dead.

Oh man, I forgot about NJAMS. I ALMOST bought that sparkle blue Kustom rig that was sitting in the window.

Cool.....Im thinking of maybe picking up a Reeves tube amp for my vintage instruments. Will have to order direct from them though.

Do you recommend any good piano/synth players as well as horn players in Vic? I am thinking of putting together a instrumental jazz/funk/Contemporary jazz project together.
I live in James Bay. Cheers

Well someone suggested the dates between the end of Christmas and before NYE...doesn't seem like a bad idea. All the gift shopping, opening, parties, should all be done by the 26 and rest until the next wave of parties and singing "Auld Lang Syne" hits.

Same experience. I live very close to a brand new Edmonds Community Centre. New Highgate mall is a very nice place as well. Oh and the library! I guess all "bad element" is located in those old apartment buildings. They actually renovated couple of those and now it becomes a more fashionable place to live. Rent in those new highrises is high(same as in any other new highrises in Lower Mainland), but regular suites/apartments/duplexes are quite reasonable!

I thought it was L&M that bought up Mothers. At least the Mothers in Edmonton became a L&M, I was disappointed 'cause Mothers was pretty cool (at least this location) and I used to check it out frequently with a friend.

As for Edmonds, I was in a low-rent 'hood with a lot of hoods about, quite unsavoury characters in an unsavoury area – that was early 90s, probably all gentrified and respectable by now...

I'd had a few attempted break-ins living there, and I was at home each time. One middle-of-the-night I heard a gun shot. Spooked from the neighbourhood break-ins etc. I kept low and peaked over my ground-floor balcony... I waited about 20 minutes before venturing out. Turns out it wasn't a gunshot at all.

A white rental van had smacked into the back of a 2-ton truck. The van went straight into the back of the truck's hydraulic-lift/tailgate, the van's drivers side was completely smashed and the passenger side not quite as bad; same thing for the driver and passenger. The driver was as smashed or moreso than the van. The back doors of the van had flung open, several flats of empty beercans and several flats of full beercans had been knocked about. The passenger hightailed it from the scene leaving the driver staggering about. I convinced him to sit down, he had some cuts and bruises on his face, and if you could've seen the how badly the driver's side was smashed in you'd wonder how this guy got out from behind the wheel. Maybe he jumped in the back at the last minute, it was that tight, and so was he. The van must've had heaps of speed based on the damage and how loud it hit, the driver should've been dead.

That someone was me! Boxing day is on a Friday, so there's a good chance most people will have the weekend off, which is why I suggested 27th or 28th.

No wonder you got out of here. I can imagine it was a terrible experience for you.

Just 3 days after getting married, my wife and I took position of our first home here, an old timer in 2002. The neighbourhood was still rather shady, pretty much with the same element you outlined.

Due to the neighbourhood and our the home being an old-timer, we actually bought at $231K, which today had skyrocketed.

The first good thing was a bar along Kingsway was closed by the city & it never re-opened. In fact, that was the first lot redeveloped into new townhouses. It began a chain reaction of other new townhouses going up. The equally ugly Middlegate Mall was completely redeveloped as High Gate. Then we started seeing families move in our area. (Using Halloween alone as an example... the first year we lived here, we only had 7 children trick or treat at our door. Last year we had about 75.)

When my wife and I were considering a new home, we priced around and calculated that it would be far less expensive if we demolished and rebuilt a new house on our existing property, which we did through 2011-2012.

Those dates sound cool. I don't know about my wife's holiday plans yet though. I'm game, unless my wife happens to make other plans.

Seriously.

Smart purchase you made, smarter still on rebuilding instead of moving. Was it a skeleton rebuild or did you raze it down to the ground to raise your phoenix? Where'd you stay in the interim?

I never had the money to invest way back then, now I've got the money but the pricing has gone a$$hole-nomical so I still can't afford to buy. I'm determined though to find a way, whether it's laneway or camping out in a tent-trailer on an empty lot while we get the fund$ for building... Another few years and we should have our HK apartment paid off at least.


As for the GTG on the 27/28th, I suggested it... I just hope I can make it!

Yep. Victoria & Nanaimo are having similar problems. Most venues pay peanuts & want cover bands only. The venues that promote original music usually want you to pay to use the space AND they take the cover. Couple that with most bars being relatively far from the housing districts and you get people who don't want to pay to go out to pay to see a band play while they pay to get drunk.

I'd rather have it planned here.

Planning it on Fecalbook is bad because:

A) It makes this thread inactive; o_O
B) This is a TB BC Club GTG after all, not a Vancouver Bass Player's Group GTG;
C) I don't do Fecalbook. :vomit:

I don't see how a TB gathering would get organised any quicker outside of TB.
Nonetheless, I'm all for including the Vancouver Bass Player's Group in the TB GTG — the more the merrier. Maybe get some more of them to join TB! :thumbsup:
