Broughton Audio Super Thread

Well, I have a shoot-out between Canada Post and USPS right now. Let’s see what gets to Switzerland faster, and with the least amount of dents and tears. ;)
Well well well. Even though I ordered with Josh later than in the US, the new LPF arrived today. USPS still is dealing with customs, according to the tracker.

So, yeah: Canada wins! :D

Does it resemble the SVD at all? in tracking? either want to pass it on, keep me in mind. I honestly thought there was only one like the PCDH19 auction phaser. It sounds really fun

I will keep you in mind as well if I ever decide to part ways. And the tracking has been fantastic for me. I agree with everything @gh0st42 said about it but, also feel like it doesn’t stop there. So many bat-s**t crazy tones to get out of that thing. I use it mostly for pop gigs. I can only imagine how useful it would be paired with a FilterFXloop too...

I second that. The SVD > FFXL > Solarian sounds very good. The clean sub from the SVD in the clean loop with the stacked SVD and Solarian in the effected loop sounds huge!

Cleaning up the farty low end on the Solarian alone is worth the price of admission with the FFXL. Sounded pretty dang good with the Locust Star in the loop as well, Set for near total destroy and cleaned up with the loop LPF, and with the clean low end brought back in.

I was wondering about this, I hear so much good about the Solarian, I get it and it does sound great, especially when adding to other pedals, BUT if you try the gain it will get to clipping. Is this part of the "dirty boost" nature of the pedal? Its very linear, so I could see running it into a OD pedal it would make the that pedal sound amazingly articulate, but by itself it seems I have to be careful, similar to the Studio Boosts "limit". 1 out of 3 basses of mine really do this bad, but I was wondering if you could eq it out, or take care of it before it got to the pedal like you mention.

I usually run the solarian above 9v due to the fartiness, but even on a 9v power supply it sounds good stacked with other pedals. At 15-18v I think it's usable by itself if you keep the gain below noon. Gotta love that 2k boost setting

Just the nature of the sound of the gain on that pedal. I like the character of the top end but really don’t like what it does to the lows. Running it at 18V makes a big improvement (IMO) if you’re using it with the gain up, but putting it in the FFXL makes it even better.

The dirt from the Solarian is just like seasoning in cooking. Not very appetizing when eaten on it's own, but added to the correct dishes it can either enhance or complement their flavour. Personally I think it shines before tube amps/preamps and tube overdrives in adding some complexity and richness. It's also great for some creating some light grit and boosting the mids a bit, but pushed too hard it's easy to overdo it. I agree with what you say about the variability between basses. One or two of mine don't play quite as well with it...EQ can help a bit, but I can't seem to totally eliminate some of the "unpleasant" clipping elements when they appear. However, I've yet to try the Solarian with something like the Filter FX loop. I'm keen to give that a spin when I get a chance.

Yeah I saw that was the way to go, I can't remember I think its at 24, at the least 18. I haven't tried the brightness switch though, its still in the middle which I think is flat?

Yes, that's where I noticed the farts, low E on my Jazz, my PJ with tapes sounds nice a smooth. I may try the RFE in front of it tonight.

Yeah I love the brightness, it was only when I soloed it at high gain. The farts were really linear, as all of Josh's gain stages, there just wasn't a smooth transition into the farts. More "testing" tonight, I need a board, this switching everything around constantly on a desk is getting problematic lol

A filter already exists to deal with that.....:p

I've never tried 24v, my supply only goes up to 18. The switch in the middle is flat, then to the right is the treble boost at 2k, and left is the treble cut at 5k. Definitely try it with other gain devices before/after! I haven't had any instruments that didn't work with it, but I use fender style basses into vintage tube heads. My only SS is a 70's GMT 300B
