Broughton Audio Super Thread

Dear Broughton Audio Super thread. My petals keep telling me I’m neglecting them and their feelings. How do I get them to understand I’ll probably never be able to give myself to them completely?

You need to cut them off quickly and bluntly. It will be harsh up front, but appreciated in the long run.

Then send them to me.

Dear Gentle Reader, just give into their demands and forgo the rest of your inconsequential life. Put the pedals first and everything will be better.

Thanks there’s been a problem with intimacy in the jam room too. :(

I’d really love to see Josh make a crazy delay pedal. I want some broughton weirdness. I love getting weird.

Pleeeease Josh. Strut your digital skillz.

Josh has done some solid weirdness...PLL, Dream Crusher, Signal Cypher, and to some extent the Broughctave...and there are a bunch of one offs that sound like they’d be out there too. I totally agree. I’d love a Broughton Delay and a glitch or granular delay would be crazy cool too. Maybe even a preamp selector thingy that houses a collection of his pre’s with some sort of capability to toggle between (even if mysteriously huge, I’d be all about that thing).

It would be just for at home stuff with the option of jamming with friends once in a blue moon. Price, power, and decent sound are what I’m considering the most. I usually leave my amps flat and turn the tone knob on my bass though.

doesn’t take much to struggle to play Stevie wonder

I mentioned it before in passing but here’s why the double four is the move.

- It’s tiny, you can pick it up w one finger making it ideal for home play because you can put it anywhere...toss it on a desk or a table
- for $100 you can get a rechargeable laptop power brick that fits in the handle of the double four to power it making it truly portable and the battery lasts a while and has digital feedback to let you know when it is running low
- has a headphone out w dedicated volume and an aux in with dedicated volume if you wanna be silent...and again small enough to put it anywhere especially if you go w portable power option
- used prices are in the mid to upper $300’s so not horrible especially compared to other options
- that Phil Jones sound (if you are into it - I am. I have a briefcase and BigHead)

I really love mine. I buy a lot of non sensical gear and I will say the Phil Jones Double Four was one of my best purchases because it is used so much. It makes playing easier and that’s what I am about. When I get the urge to play I sometimes only have 10 mins so setup has to be simple and the Double Four is that. I just plug the cable into the power source that is tucked into the handle and bam I am ready to go. I can set up anywhere in the house or beyond. I got it during the pandemic to be able to have change of scenery during lockdowns and use it constantly.

Make it similar to the Resound with switchable styles of effect.

Who has a/the Signal Cypher? I'd love to get my hands on that one, have you had the pleasure of playing that one?

I snagged one a while back.

Very fun crazy pedal. Especially with an Expression pedal hooked up!

Personally I dig the PLL a little more for bonkers space invaders noise, but the Signal Cypher is a very strong contender depending on what you are looking for.

I have a signal cypher. It’s a beast! Very complex but also very nice when dialed in right. I don’t take it out too often but when I do I set it up with my Vol-wah volume/expression pedal. I’ve contemplated selling/trading in the past but can’t seem to let it go.

Does it resemble the SVD at all? in tracking? either want to pass it on, keep me in mind. I honestly thought there was only one like the PCDH19 auction phaser. It sounds really fun

I'll keep you in mind if I ever let it go!

In a way, yes. The Sub Octaves and Square Wave are based on the same circuit as the Synth Voice.

It's kinda like if you combined the Synth Voice with a Josh Wah, and then tossed in some Resonance, and added an Expression pedal control.

There has been a couple of small batch releases after the auction version, if I remember correctly.

Speaking of... in the very unlikely event someone wants to swap the Purple version from the Auction for a Sparkle Black regular version plus some $$ on my end, let me know!

I did some monkeying around with my new Filter FX Loop last night. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's a magic plug and play "make everything better" box all on its own, but I think once I get it figured out and dialed in it will be a good one to keep on the shelf.

While monkeying around with the FFXL and various dirt pedals, I also got the Synth Voice Deluxe down off the shelf. It'd been a while since I plugged that one in, and now I remember why I kept it around :). I usually start with my dry tone and then add in the Sub and Synth voices to suit, but last night I started with the Synth as my main voice, and added Dry and Sub voices under that. VERY cool for copping pop/synth sounds. I ran that into the FFXL with the Solarian in the loop which polished things over quite nicely.

You're gonna need to reinforce that shelf pretty soon...

I second that. The SVD > FFXL > Solarian sounds very good. The clean sub from the SVD in the clean loop with the stacked SVD and Solarian in the effected loop sounds huge!
