Broughton Audio Super Thread

I had one for a while and liked it well enough, but never really used it that frequently. It was never my first choice and I could never really get a sound out of it that I love-loved.
I've been listening to a lot of Circles Around The Sun lately though, and lusting after that clean and clear Alembic/Fender stack sound. It's probably just a phase. :p
The SSDI is in your future.

You're probably right. But I'm putting it at the *bottom* of the priority list. lol
What I like about the Silver Deluxe is that you can turn it off on a gig. :p

I should dust off my SWR Interstellar Overdrive pre, too. Ironically, I've never liked it for overdrive sounds, but for big juicy tubey clean tones it's great. Especially since I replaced the 12AX7 tube with at 12AU7 now, the cleans are just so nice.

I understand the demand and rarity of the QS but I don’t see how it’s comparable to his(mostly unanimous lol) best mains pre
SSDI can't drive, Quicksilver can. That being said, the SSDI makes anything put in front better, including the Quicksilver.

Quicksilver is interesting, you can go to far, but the sweet spot before that point is very nice and responds to a wide array of dynamics

I didn’t expect to love the silver deluxe.
I don’t usually go for clean clean sounds.
I scored one in the classifieds on a whim, partly just on the strength of how enamored I was with the SvPre. But it really surprised me. Something about how big and responsive it is. I pretty much always run it at 24v, it made a difference for me. And I’m also feeding it with flatwounds.

That's true but I think an extremely high quality mains pre with rich cleans outweighs a tube drive pedal that can do both...plus the market is oversaturated with the amount of good quality tube drives out there, yet there is only one SSDI. :)

I don't have either, and if money and availability were no object I would have both. That said, given a choice I would probably take the QS for about 1/3 of the price.

I'm sure it will never happen but I am a fan of the idea of doing multiple drops on the same day, but only being able to order one. That would create some interesting choices.

I sold off every Fender/Alembic pre/amp including an SSDI and D-180. I purchased another SSDI because it was in stock. I tried to not like it because of the tone stack but the sound doesn’t lie! It’s now the #1 pre I grab. That means a lot coming from an Ampeg fan boi!

yeah that's subjective lol, but the SSDI is my favorite as well. I've been only using my board, so the QS running into the Studio One is my main sound model. They're two totally different animals really, honestly I compare the QS to the P15 more

Silver Deluxe is awesome. But I already have one, so I pre spite bought this:
