Broughton Audio Super Thread

Can you say more about the Quicksilver offering the Archetype tonal profile? Josh says "The 12AT7 is configured similar to the Broughton Archetype family of pedals and preamps. One triode directly feeds a heavily amplified signal into the other triode, which is biased to give asymmetrical compression and harmonics, greatly amplifying the effect while only needing one tube. Although this can provide overdrive, it shines best as on the edge of breakup." I always understood this to mean that the electrical path is similar, but it sounds like you think they are tonally quite similar as well?
.

No, i wouldn't expect the QS and Arch Boost to be similar sounding as i do not hear such similarities with the Arch mains and the QS. There's something though between the two latter that is, to me, the Arch 'flavour'. In my words it's 'these mids', but technically speaking, guess it's more complex than that as the QS and the Arch are voiced quite differently imo. Both shine though (imo) at adding an extra presence that makes one's bass tone standing out in a band setting. This is where Archetype assymetrical compression may explain what i'm expressing as 'these mids'.

Sweetwater Shipping is the slowest in the industry GEEESSSHH. I get things from Canada through Chi-Town faster than anything they ship and supposedly their warehouse is only one state away from me Geesssh
That's weird, they were always very quick to me. 3 days or less, typically, though I haven't bought anything from them in a while.

This thread is a small subset of my customer base, you don't get the full picture of who is buying stuff from here.

Is there another place on the web with as much discussion of your products as here? I’d like to read along and possibly join in. Thanks!

I hope they become a regular stock item.
I hear ya but the only regularly available tube option has been the P-15. (And for any that haven’t tried one, you’re missing out).

I remember when they were complete unobtanium. Now, pop on the site and add to cart. Just lovely.

Probably not. There's the OG Discord server. That's a smaller group, though, and not something one can just join. Lots of studio folks buy Broughton utility pedals, but I doubt they have an ongoing conversation quite like this thread. Indeed, I struggle to imagine a more dynamic and high frequency discussion of Broughton Audio products. Today alone produced 12 pages of thread.

It does kinda blow my mind seeing people throwing around crazy money on the tube pedals like Sunray and Quicksilver, etc but SSDIs and P-15s sit in the classifieds or in stock from the site at a similar and often lower price for ages.

Don’t get me wrong, the tube pedals are awesome, but the mains preamps are a whole different level of insanely good tube tone.

A good trifecta would be is Scorp ~> AVB ~> Msgr Jr.
My first valve boost pedal on the board and will experiment.
For now I think it will be dirt pedals > AVB > preamp pedal > modulation > amp.
Any thoughts those of you who have tried similar boost pedals before? I know Josh is suggesting placing at the end of the chain, not sure if that would include preamp pedals and modulation though.
