Broughton Audio Super Thread

You've never used an amp with toobz before, sir?

I don't believe I have. I've used amps with tubes in the preamp, like a Shuttle 6 and a Shuttle 9, and an Eden WT800, but I don't think it's the same thing is it? Aside from the Eden, I've pretty much always used small modern lightweight class D heads. I will say I bought a SB Particle Accelerator pedal, but it didn't do much for me.

I have an Eden 300; bought an Ampeg PF50T, and was surprised at how much better the Ampeg sounded. That being said, when I introduced tube based effects, particularly the LA1A, i felt like there was a loss of detail in the mids that the Ampeg’s preamp couldn’t properly address. I had an Oracle preamp feeding it as well, and it was too much tube, if theres such a thing. My next step was to buy a Baby Sumo- no tone controls, just amplification. I felt like the Oracle and LA1A offered a far better preamp section than the Ampeg. More control. Still tubey. I then found the SSDI, and was blown away with the SSDI feeding that Baby Sumo. Into a Bergantino 212, with a HP filter, i feel like that combo gives you the best of what both solid state and tubes can do without breaking the bank.

Well this sounds amazing, as I thought it would:

Calamity has a pretty dark voicing overall, so I'm liking it with Tone all the way clockwise. But, it's amazingly quiet compared to other fuzzes, even when hit with a bright boost.

I like having both a Calamity and a Locust Star on my board.

Making me go look up another pedal LOL

I dunno about other fuzzes but for unity (depending on switch position) the volume for me is usually around 9:00 or a bit higher and I get lots of oomph. Switch positions have an impact tho’.

Oh yeah it has tons of volume, especially on the No Clip setting- I meant that it has much less white noise when engaged, and feeds back less than many other Big Muffs I've played.

Great amp. The tube in it had very little to do with the tone of the preamp which was a very warm sounding SS amp all by itself.
Couldn’t pay me enough to haul one around now though.:sorry:

Yeah, the Eden World Tour stuff are still some of my very favorite things. Just don't trust all those parts getting older and older. It's just not worth the risk on a gig. I have the WT800 and two Navigator preamps that I'm afraid to play out at this point. One of the Navigators has something wrong with one of the many outputs they have available, so I guess it's kinda just for parts now :)

But as I thought, it's not a tube tone, just like any other amp I've had. I guess what I've heard when I listen online to what people say are great sounding tube amps and preamps is something that I would describe as "distorted" and maybe "vintage"?

As someone else said, it's definitely subjective. To give you an idea of my taste, even though I play fingerstyle, I think Mike Gordon's tone is pretty much the best thing since sliced bagels. So it's no coincidence I love the Eden amps.

Evan has been banned for a matter of months and TB has already forgotten him. I suspect your comment killed a small part of his soul.
